Thanks button

I've noticed that the thanks button is not always available. Sometimes it's forum dependent. Other times, I only have the option for some of the postings in a thread. Could someone explain when the thanks button is/isn't available?

I think the thanks button goes away after the post is over 2 weeks old.

Yup it's disabled after 5 days, and you can only thank people 5 times a day.

Well, you can always unthank after you have thanked them?
