That figure doesn't surprise me.

That includes the cost of living in residence. The figures are bit misleading. A significant portion of that 100K will go to residence alone.

If you read the whole thing they even say it will be approximately 16K annually for tuition.

I wonder how C-lai's drive(Pilot) when we have flying cars. :lol

Yup. A couple years ago I was accepted into the University of York in England for a degree I was going to pursue. It wasn't until afterwards when they sent me the final cost for the year and projected costs for the following two years (four year program crammed into three years) that I got sticker shock. $150,000 CDN for school!?! Only about $60,000 of that was going toward tuition as well...

I've been eyeing a school in Detroit for the last little while..

My Dentist friends paid $50K/year for tuition alone for 4 years, not adding in driving to school, food, rent, etc.
They made over $200k in their first year out of school.

it's harder and harder for fresh grads to find jobs these days..unless you move to rural area where you get paid way more too

Anyways, back on topic, Its not very surprising to see that figure. If those who pursue that path succeed. They'll come out of school making that money back in no time.

After I graduated Emily Carr, I wanted to upgrade. I went down to the prestigious Art Center in California to meet with one of the counselors regarding my application to their Transportation Design program. Based on my portfolio, skills, and experience I was guaranteed that I'd get accepted in but the overall cost of the program (150-200K approx for the four year duration) brought me back to reality. There's no way I could afford it so I declined and stalled the decision for a few years. In a way I'm sort of glad I didn't go through with it since there's barely any jobs in the automotive design sector. Till now, there are still design studios closing (recent one is Honda in Europe).

However, I'm sort of living in regret now that I think about it. In a way I should've gone through with Art Center and I'm contemplating to apply again but this time in IED Transportation Design program in Turin, Italy for 3 years and half the cost. I think I'm well off compared to my other classmates I graduated with as some aren't even working in the field yet 1.5 years later. I have a secure job and currently work as a furniture/industrial designer for a large manufacturing company and freelance contract work in car design/graphic design/corporate branding here in there. But the ultimate fantasy of becoming a car designer keeps coming back to me.
