speaker recommandation?? help - ALpine

so im thinking getting some aftermarket speakers...alpine only, since im an alpine whore

Alpine Type R $175.99 cdn

Alpine Type S $159.99 cdn

and the other Alpine Type S $119.99?


I have Alpine Type R 10" sub right now, and i know their sub the R vs S is a night and day difference. Are teh speakers that way as well? quite a bit of difference?


price wise the R vs the $159.99 S is basically same price so might as well as go with the R? but question is will the R fit into our rsx no problem? i spoke to a friend of mine and he said the R has bigger magnet which needs custom work on the mounting bracket as well as even the magnet on the back of rsx? true?

2nd how come one Type S is $119.99 one is $159.99?

One is a component speaker the other is a coaxial.

Your best bet is to listen to them and see if can even hear the difference between the two. Usually the higher end speakers sound smoother and handle more power.

The R's will have a bigger magnet which MAY need a custom spacer/adapter for the RSX. Either or you should mount the speakers to MDF adapters anyways. Metal on metal is never good.

I would suggest trying another brand, you could get something better sounding than Alpine for the price.

Sounding better is determined by: how much power you stick to them; where you place them in the car; how well they are enclosed; how much Hushmat you use; what kind/size of wire...specifications will tell you what the speakers want. The car that you drive, the amount of money you're willing to throw at them will allow their dictation to take place or not.

Since the Type "R" is more expensive, I'd be inclined to believe that they would sound better and be able to take more power.
Therefore, by default, the "S" would be more efficient with less power, but sound quality, is up to other factors.

Alpine only? Pity.

off my JVC 7" deck i believe power rating is 50watts each channel?

Type S is listed power rating 80 watts, while R is listed 100 watts

so i guess either way even if i go with the S i will need amp to power these?

Coaxial is one speaker with a tweeter in the middle. Component is a 2 or 3 speaker system (per side) that usually comes with its own crossover network. If you want to power them off of the deck, get coaxials. Components require more power (like a separate amplifier) to get the most out of them.

Alpine Type R's are 'ok' but you will need to cut the metal in your doors and also have a spacer made up for them.

I got a feeling I shouldn't even bother with type s, dobnt think it will be much of an upgrade over my stock bose

Would the rear need modifications too for the "r" ?

Finally the words I've been waiting for. We have some Polk Audio components that will take 400 watts, sound incredible and that will fit into your doors with ease for less that the price of your "R"'s!

As for rear speakers, it's kinda like home rear speakers, you won't hear much from them, so why spend much on them? A simple set of coaxials will do back there. Or do like we do and pull the rears all together for better sub flow.

Focal has some Coaxials and Components (165CA1 or 165A1) that would fit in with little to no modification.

Obviously would be a lil more expensive than the Alpines and Polks, but way more dynamic, made in france, with a 3 year warranty.

Funny, one of our guy's has an amazingly dynamic sounding car using Polk Audio Mobile Monitor series in his car. In fact he is the 2009 Canadian SQ champion in his class - beating out many other competitors using Focals, Hybrid Audio and other speakers costing 3-4 times as much. Not bad for a set of $400 speakers.
