Old Boy (not the Korean one)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1321511/

:eek::eek:

Apparently Steven Spielberg is attempting to remake the Korean movie Old Boy!

Will Smith will cast in it.

Dear god, I nearly shit my pants seeing this. Will Smith has made very awesome movies recently, 6 Pounds, I Am Legend.....etc....can't believe he is going to be in this remake.

With Spielberg directing, and Will Smith's acting, I know it should be good. I just hope it wont fail like many Hollywood remakes of Asian films.

old news

1. I'll reserve judgment until at least a trailer has been released. I think it has a lot of potential but it's unlikely to match up in terms of movie quality to the original Oldboy

2. This was discussed a year ago when the news came out and it was made clear that this version of Oldboy will be based on the original manga not the Korean movie (which was also based on the manga but deviated significantly from the original story)

will smith sucks.

i spit on this movie, and anyone who praises its release.

JSALES 10-20-2009 06:38 PM

This should be really good. If he can improve on it, like Scorsese did with Infernal Affairs.

i'm sorry what?

StylinRed 10-21-2009 02:40 AM

^^^ the original Infernal Affairs is better than departed

SkinnyPupp 10-21-2009 02:43 AM

If you really think that the original was better, there is literally something wrong with the way your brain works. You are broken.

The original was a clumsy mess, with terrible acting on most parts (although of course Tsang Chi Wai was great).

It was good for a HK movie, because the movie industry has been dead there for years. But The Departed improves on it in literally every way one could possibly think of, unless you simply prefer Hong Kong actors over American actors.

And this is from someone who really enjoyed the original when it came out.

Ulic Qel-Droma 10-21-2009 03:14 AM

the departed was better as a movie.

like technically wise, and somewhat story wise.. but especially technically. editing skills, directing skills, acting skills, everything technical involved was better.

i know why people like the HK version better, i did a bit at first too, but really, if you were a real film critic and put your biases aside, the departed was a better movie overall.

and I'm the type of guy that loves fucking cramped jungle concrete cities like HK.
