Buying laptop here, but wants chinese OS

my moms gonna buy a laptop here, but she needs to use chinese OS.
if i remember right, windows can switch the whole OS to display another language, but im not totally sure. and i think only certain versions of windows can do it, am i correct?

for vista and win7 only ultimate can do that.
i think if you buy pro you can change some settings in cmd to fix that though

so judging by the responses, if the laptop came with anything other than ultimate, it cant change languages?

SkinnyPupp 10-22-2009 01:36 AM

Vista Enterprise can also switch languages

StylinRed 10-22-2009 04:06 AM

i got vista and i can switch.. go into control panel then clock, language, region then regional language options

then change your format, location, keyboards and languages, and under administrative change your locale

that switches a lot

go 1 step further and get the Language Interface Pack (LIP) and it will translate 80% on everything in the interface then theres multilngual user interface(MUI) which u need ultimate or enterprise and it will translate 100% but LIP is more than good enough

http://www.microsoft.com/unlimitedpo...grams/llp.mspx

here's a site that talks about it http://www.walkernews.net/2007/06/25...ser-interface/

LIP is intended to allow developing countries use Windows - since they sell a Chinese version already, and offer a Chinese MUI, there won't be an LIP for Chinese.

i dunno that link says there is ???

MUI for Vista 64 RTM
