To be fair, he has good intention of getting the Olympics here. Think about the athletes and how it'll put Vancouver on the world map.

It's just the other guys screwed it up for him

holy shit talk about old news he died last year, I don't get how they are caliming it was today. This is fucked up a bunch of sources are saying it. The g/f's dad is the head project mgr for Concert properties and litterally works next to Jack. I remember when he passed because of course her parents when to the funeral I'm straight up confused right now.

Jsunu 10-23-2009 02:13 PM

Just because he led the bid didnt mean he was solely responsible for the current problem right now. For all I know, he had alturistic intentions when he brought the olympics here. I am pretty sure the majority of you where excited when get got the olympics back in 2003, we just have to deal with the reality of it now....

montreal is still paying for their olympic games held back in 80-something. i wouldnt say montreal was put on the map.

vancouvers already "on the map", people know about vancouver, they just dont care. promising that the olympics are going to us citizens a return-on-investment was just so poor people cant complain.

the only immediate benefit of the olympics are temporary increases in sales in hotel/tourism/service industry. if you work in any of these you might get a raise, but everyone else including you will see more pay deducted

StylinRed 10-24-2009 03:12 AM

montreal was state funded, montreal was the reason why the olympics switched to include publicly funded/sponsored games

There's also all the new infrastructure that was put into place which can be mainly thanked for because of the Olympics. The new Canada Line, the Sea-to-Sky upgrade, the new Convention Center, and all the other not as major street and building upgrades were all basically rammed through because of the Olympics.

That said, Vancouver was already put on the map back in '86 because of Expo. Vancouver has been classified a top five world city for consecutive years now. Anyone who doesn't think Vancouver was already on "the map" lives too much in a bubble.

StylinRed 10-24-2009 09:55 PM

another note they showed on the news that only 30% of tickets are available to the public and that number goes down much more for high profile events like the opening ceremonies and hockey

the rest of the tickets go to corporations and the govt reps + their buddies

this is better than past olympics though supposedly the number of tickets open to the public have been around 10%

BBMme 10-25-2009 05:13 PM

RIP
thank you for the 2010 Vancouver Olympic
