$500million? wtf

Now I don't have the article here but waaaaay back when they were talking about doing this didn't they say the whole point of doing this after the Olympics would be that the cost would be significantly cheaper? If I recall the pre Olympic amount would have been about $500million and now post Olympics it still costs $500 million? WTF how much would this have really cost if we completed this for the Winter Games? 1 billion? wow

Ok just found 1 article but it wasn't exactly the one I was looking for. First of all I know the article states that it's an estimate but still.

"Replacing the entire roof with a similar design would cost about $20 million, while a retractable roof is estimated to cost $200 million, according to proposals by BC Pavilion Corp., the Crown corporation that runs the stadium"

Waste of money...

i hope thats a $500m full reno and not just a roof. seems pretty steep for a soft top, that should be able to buy a hard top like every other major retractable roof.

i dont really understand the point of a retractable roof on BC place. it will never be open.

Sort of looks like the 02 arena in London.

It's modeled after the soccer stadium in Frankfurt that was remodeled for World Cup '06. I've been to that stadium and it is gorgeous...we can only hope that BC Place ends up somewhat close...

For comparison's sake, the whole stadium for the 2012 London Olympics is "only" US$715.4 million.

$500 million includes the $65 million dollar renovations for the olympics and the cost of building the temporary stadium at Empire Stadium for the BC Lions (the soccer field at Hastings and Cassiar)

the majority of that money will come from the lease of the land around the stadium to build office towers.

here is a video of the rendering i wonder how long it will take for the nimbys in their condos to get them to turn off the lighting effects.

um no.

the port authority owns the land/tracks where the whitecaps owner wanted to build the stadium.

the city of vancouver approved the stadium a LONG time ago.
