I'd be tempted to drive to Blaine just to fill up with gas to avoid this tax, every single time I need to fill up. Take that Translink.

TRANSLINK =

PiuYi 10-24-2009 01:24 AM

translink SERIOUSLY needs to get wiped the fuck out
just no fcking planning at all.... way to run vancouver transit to the ground. assholes.

"The alternative is for mayors to refuse any funding increase, forcing an array of cuts, including a 40 per cent reduction in bus service."

i think if that actually happend, riots would breakout and translink would finally get whipped into shape and stop being the sorry failure that it is now

Anyone remember how Translink was on strike for a few months 8 years ago? Life seemed to be fine (for most people) after a few weeks of adjustment.

skyxx 10-24-2009 06:59 AM

It's a TARP!!!! Anyway, I still gotta use gas and all that so I can't do much about it.

I do remember that bus strike 8 years ago. I lived in Richmond and bused out to Vancouver to work. During those few months, I got my licence and got a car! Thank you bus strike! If it wasn't for that, I might still be taking the bus!

MG1 10-24-2009 09:15 AM

Is Abbotsford part of Translink now? They never used to, but they were going to join. Part of the reason gas is cheaper out there. I work in Abby, so I get cheap gas while I'm there.

JesseBlue 10-24-2009 09:55 AM

screw the mayors too...no one told them to raise money for a cash cow...how about firing / getting rid of a few / a lot of useless directors and supervisors

bring in a czar like they have for american car companies. put translink in check.

they don't have money, but they have enough money to renovate broadways station with glass windows? putting in turnstiles would cut out the need for so many attendants/transit cops. cause people who pay for transit are usually not the ones that start shit.

ya totally motherfucking fucked up, hence why im pissed off as fuck

my house to skytrain is about 4km one way, whether its in my own car or my parents V6, fuck gas money will not exceed more than $1 dollar on both way
Why the fuck should i pay $3 bux one way? thats gonna expire in 2 hrs, and after i get off from work i have to pay another $3 dollar to come home?
seriously, somebody do the math why would anyone wonna take the piece of shitty ass skytrain, super unreliable. Breaking down and shit delaying my time and schedule. Meanwhile waiting 5 minutes for each train to come is just simply gay.

Now I will happily pay for a 2zone fare if they make the skytrain more reible. Waiting for 3+ trains before I can go on and go to work is unacceptable, waiting for 2+ skytrain before I can get on and go home is unacceptable, having the skytrain broke down everyweek and delay about 30+mins every week is unacceptable.

Once they improve the skytrain system I will pay my fair share.

Edit: Time to start saving for a car and gas.

same here i only buy one zone, fuck the system. Especially when the shit breaks down, i feel i should get a refund plus a compensation, pure bullshit

well wat the fuck, everything seems to be going up. And our salary aint going up to shit, how the fuck does this work

getting taxes $1300 a month is seriously fucking bs for me. No getting $1-2 raise will not help neither of us, becuz why? by the time after the homo taxes u should be lucky to see $20 bux more

fucking gay

same thing with doing OT, completetly useless

so im guessing 3 zone is gonna be $6.25 than eh? judging by the way they rank their 1 zone fare, wat a joke

ragequitting on vancouver is the new trend here?

Meowjin 10-24-2009 02:41 PM

inflation.

ziggyx 10-24-2009 03:06 PM

One day sometime in the near future.. the cost of owning an actual car (monthly payments) + insurance + gas will be cheaper than taking public transit.. lol Then they will have no people taking transit and translink will cease to exist.

Or they'll just find a way to tax us and still be around when no one is using their service.

Meowjin 10-24-2009 04:11 PM

inflation.

The M-Line stations cost around $25-million each....which happens also to be the approximate cost for each Canada Line elevated station at half the length, after 5 years of inflation.

btw the government promised they would be building that surrey extension, what they didnt tell you is unlike the m-line and e-line bc government wasn't going to pay for the extension and was trying to force translink to pay for it themselves. Originally the funding model of Translink, right after the agency was created was to have Translink be responsible for operating costs, and with the provincial government responsible for capital construction costs.

In regard to the funding, Port Moody mayor Trasolini voted against it because, he was in favor of cutting the funding and forcing the Province to step in. Once they announce they're cutting funding, the Province would be forced to step in and either make up the shortfall from General revenue or give Translink some power to raise capital.

thank you to the other mayors for being idiots and voting to fund translink.

The $270m plan would've seen another 52 skytrain cars in addition to our current order of 48 which would've seen enough 4-car MKIIs and 6-car MKIs with 9 sets to spare or provide a very modest increase in service. Overhaul of Skytrain electrical and controls system, Expo Line capacity upgrades.

The $450m plan would've seen (all in addition to the $270m plan) an additional 38 skytrain, $3.8 billion earmarked for rapid transit expansion including for the Evergreen Line. 6 additional WCE cars and an additional locomotive, presumedly to negotiate a 6th trip in, Albion WCE Station, 300 additional buses, 10 minute seabus frequency, 250 buses reinvested to other new services I presume because of expanded rapid transit services.

l2_narain 10-26-2009 12:18 AM

I was thinking of buying a van for a beater, going with the cheapest insurance possible, and for the next 4 months drive around roadblocks of budgeted service. I remember last year with no slow plow, ice on the trolly lines screwing up the services (skytrain too I believe) and finally the sardines in a can game with skytrain rides...not again.

Hot Karl 10-26-2009 12:45 AM

relax with the drama queen action in here.

it's not $6/day. unless you're an idiot who uses the bus daily and doesn't buy a bus pass. which is also good for 15% refund on your taxes at the end of the year.

a lot of folks who work for minimum wage in jobs few of us would touch require transit. they are hurt the most by any service disruption. they can barely afford things as it is.

taxes always suck, but guess what? drive less. use alternate means. carpool. it's not called making sacrifices because it's fucking easy. or start using translink. reap the benefits of these taxes instead of just being a donor.

but like any government entity there are efficiency shortfalls that can always be addressed. ie turnstiles.

hotjoint 10-26-2009 07:17 AM

I havent used the skytrain for about 5 years now. I'd rather drive and let translink rape me for the extra gas tax bs. Skytrain is unreliable. We're getting fucked either way if we drive or take skytrain. Nothing we can do. It comes down to cost vs covenience and at the moment its cheaper but less convenient to take skytrain...

Mugen EvOlutioN 10-26-2009 07:22 AM

fuck i'd totally be driving all around the city if it wasnt for the milleage. Otherwise i seriously aint saving SHIT each month

silk 10-26-2009 07:25 AM

^ you can save if you sold your car , easy fix... since you wanna save on your mileage
why pay insurance when you sit your car at home fool !
