intermittent rattle sound

the victim is a 91 prelude, recently, every 6-10 seconds there would be a 2-4 second rattle coming from engine bay, it does it on accel/decel but NOT during idle, it sounds like plastic on metal or something, it doesnt affect performance, is just really annoying in a parking lot trying to find a spot and people keep staring LOL. What bothers me is that its re-occuring and its almost clockwork the way it makes the noise.

just take a look in the bay and try and spot the rub marks of anything close to the engine. or just have someone hit the gas pedal while you have a peak

Are you able to pinpoint a bit more where the noise comes from? (Right/Left) Is it a manual or an auto? On an old 1.6 EL I had the culprit was the clutch plate rattling when the clutch had worn down to a point where it wasn't yet slipping but was enough to cause loosening if driven harder.

I had an couple of annoying rattles near the front of my car as well. First one I swore was coming from the engine bay, but turned out to be my licence plate rattling against my licence plate frame! The next one was a bit more tricky to find... it ended up being one of the rubber hood 'stops' that was near the headlight. They adjsut much like a screw (raise and lower) and all I did was raise it a bit so when the ood was closed, the rubber stop was firm agaisnt the hood. Not sure if your car has these, but worth a shot. Never rule out the weird shit! Best thing is to grab a couple friends and figure out where its coming from.

The usual problem with ludes are the cat can be breaking inside and the broken parts usually rattle inside when you start moving... if its not affecting performance that could be the problem... try and pin point where the noise is coming from!
