Let's see... Lansdowne has Best Buy, Futureshop and Toys'R'Us... 3 awesome man-boy stores if there ever were any...

And you guys are saying Richmond Centre? Because you like LaSenza and Guess and Aritzia and all the FEMALE clothing stores? Not 1 single interesting (straight) guy store in the whole mall.

i go to RC because of the exact reason.... GIRLS shop there

i wanna go to landsdowne mall and look at sweat geek guys buying computers and video games
or the momma boys whose trying to fight over that last optimus prime transformer?

Gumby 10-25-2009 10:03 PM

The main thing Lansdowne Mall has going for them is a huge ass parking lot. Which is usually mostly empty!

^^ So it's an ad saying Cold Water Kills. Yeah it's a bit cheesy, but the government has to start SOMEwhere, which is probably why they picked such a "cheaper place" to post. Unless you want them to broadcast this during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Pretty interesting, did you look at the stats?

http://www.coldwaterbootcamp.com/pages/cfv2.html

Lifesaving Society Facts
In 2004, 410 people drowned in Canada,
130 were boating.

Cold Water
60% drowned in water under 10 degrees C
34% drowned in water between 10 – 20 degrees C

LIFEJACKETS
Only 12% were properly wearing a lifejacket
2% were improperly wearing a lifejacket

DISTANCE FROM SHORE
43% were less than 2 metres from shore/safety * <- look at this one.
66% were less than 15 metres from shore/safety*
*shore, boat, dock, etc.

HOW THEY ENDED UP IN THE WATER
26% fell or were thrown overboard
48% were in a boat that capsized or was swamped

SWIMMING ABILITY
Non-swimmer = 29% <- Also look at this one.
Weak = 15%
Average = 12%
Strong = 10%
Not identified = 34%

If people didn't keep on falling into cold water and drowning, the government might not waste such money.. I remember reading somewhere that many victims are also intoxicated at the time, which would also explain a lot. (yay for drinking and boating/swimming/scuba.)

ps Lasdowne isn't THAT bad. JYSK is awesome for housewares/misc stuff. :D They're so cheap (price-wise) though, I have no idea how they survive.

But... everytime I go to RC all I see are pedobear approved girls walking around caked in makeup trying to pretend they're old enough to be out on their own... plus I guess I'm married and stopped going to the mall to pick girls up when I turned 17 which was like... a long time ago lol

It's like your 1 stop spot for cheap stuff.......it went downhill ever since the old Aberdeen center went down and all the chinese stores moved over....

you! 10-26-2009 12:53 PM

only go there for #9

q0192837465 10-26-2009 04:07 PM

how do those stores survive? Like that old clock store, it's been there for ages, but I never see anyone in there.

Eff-1 10-26-2009 05:03 PM

When it comes to Lower Mainland malls, this one is a bit of an anomaly. The owners are overseas, somewhere in Asia. They could care less about the mall. It could collapse in a tornado and they wouldn't even know. The gigantic amount of land it sits on is worth more than the mall itself. Hell, they didn't even have website until a year and a half ago, or something like that.

As for the ad itself, it's a typical government ad. Your tax dollars paid for it. What else is new?

The rent is cheap. Having all the stores leased is better for the mall than empty stores. Once stores are empty, it's starts a tidal wave that makes leasing to new tenants an extreme challenge. Tinseltown is a textbook example.

RevYouUp 10-26-2009 08:02 PM

its like a c-lai mall...

yep. our rent in lansdowne is a hell of a lot lower than in oakridge or metrotown. lol. those stores exist because the mall wants them to.

EmperorIS 10-27-2009 10:41 AM

Aberdeen Centre... 90% of the stores in there are opened and ran by the mall...

Rent is hella expensive .. and stores get little to no profit ... they wont lower rent .. management is terrible
even malls like metrotown ... their rent is = to the % they make if they dun make over a certain amount

lansdowne atleast has some big retail stores ... aberdeen is way more fail
oh ya.. their parking is fail too

q0192837465 10-27-2009 12:16 PM

^ lol, dun be ridiculous. Management is doing a terrific job. These r simply money laundering establishments. "Black money" from asia being "washed". That's y they dun care so much about profits. Using money that cannot be spent to create net worth for themselves. I'll say they'r doing a damn fine job

Their parking lot is fail, but damn! They have daiso!!!!11111

CP.AR 10-27-2009 10:55 PM

^ Daiso =

go in... buy shit thinking "it's only $2 a pop"
BUT, when you go pay... its like "SHIT, 10 items = 20 dorrars"

slammer111 10-27-2009 11:20 PM

^ Actually you know what's lame? Many items aren't even $2 anymore!
