Can we do number transfer from FIDO to Telus?

k2_alpha 11-16-2009 09:02 AM

^yes or at least most likely.

you will probably have to pay a fee, but the dealers should have a machine in the back that can transfer contacts from cdma to sim cards... well at least bell does.. not so sure about telus

I think he's talking about number portability.

I think he meant keep the same phone number. Yeah, number portability hasn't gone anywhere so it's still OK.

does this mean u can use unlocked phones?

CT10 11-26-2009 07:02 PM

^yes, you will need to buy a SIM Card from Telus, and put it into your unlocked phone

BUT your unlocked phone must have the HSDPA bands 1900 and 850

rien 11-27-2009 08:41 PM

^.. so it has to be telus or bell unlocked phones?

Alphamale 11-27-2009 09:05 PM

No, it doesn't.

All you need to do is your research to make sure that the phones have UMTS bands 850 and 1900. There are phones out there (basically any North American 3G phone) that are not currently carried by telus/bell/rogers that are capable.

For example, the North American Editions (NAM) of N97, E71, E72...etc. Some of which have recently been picked up by carriers.

Oh, make sure it has BOTH UMTS 850 and 1900 and not just ONE OR THE OTHER. Also make sure it is UMTS and not GSM.

If you're using an unlocked non-Telus phone you'll be using it at your own risk though. They say the data may not work and if it doesn't, they won't support it.

BELLUS network only OPERATE ON 3G(HSPA/UTMS) 1900/850mhz
meaning if its 2G 1900/850 GSM, it will NOT

basically, BELLUS is CDMA/EVDO+ HSPA/UTMS VOICE and DATA

if not, there will be ALOT of crying customers

basically, shit like
SE SATIO
SE AINO
NOKIA N97-1(euro/asia)
all the japanese phones
most of the APAC samsungs stuff like that

those wont work so make sure

and if ur moving your number from carrier A to carrier B, DO NOT CANCEL the existing number or else the port will not work

the countless times i have seen this occur, wow..

Question: If I buy a Telus locked phone, and I want to use it for Bell can I use one of those remote unlockers? There is one on craigslist, but it states that it unlocks Rogers/Fido Phones... but would it work either way? I am trying to unlock the Nokia E71 from Telus...

k2_alpha 12-07-2009 11:54 PM

^yes.
if you unlock it successfully, you are good to go.
plug in the bell sim and you are surfing away

G 12-08-2009 12:04 AM

^So should I can trust those 10$ remote guys or pay 30$ for JPCellular to do it... :(

hongy 12-08-2009 08:53 PM

^^If I were you I'd just pay the extra 20$ for jp
