Has anyone lived in Japan?

I'm just wondering if I can get a bit of input from anyone who's lived in Japan or knows how expensive the cost of living is...

I'm looking at going over there to teach English (have a school that's interested in me), and from what I can tell the average ESL teacher makes ABOUT 250,000 yen a month.

Is that enough to pay for rent, a phone, food and have a little left over for other stuff? (Unfortunately I don't know what city it's going to be on, so I know the rent part is a little vague, I just have no idea how far 250k yen would get me).

If you could give me a bit of an idea as to how much say, a meal out is, rent on a small, bachelor apartment would be, an average cellphone would cost monthly, etc I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks.

i just got back from there
living is pretty expensive. my buddy makes about 250000-300000 yen a month

you can definitely get by with the much cash.
food is pretty pricey but it depends there are places and are good and cheap aswell, except if u want to eat fruit, its expensive. 800yen for 3 bananas and 200 for 1 avacado etc

realy its all about finding deals, for extra money if u want to drink most places serve fancier drinks for 1000 yen and beers for 750 yen but i managed to have help with me and i found some for 300 yen

average is pretty much 3-4 yr experience ESL teachers...then there are some hardcore celebrity type ESL teachers with million students screw up the curve.

a female friend of mine said around 200,000yen if you work full time with some experience

i wanna goto japaaannnnn

i hear as long as you can cook for yourself and know where to get deals for food and groceries, then it shouldnt be too hard
