Driving Down To States With One Day Permit

I have a two part questions and hoping somebody can help me out!

Just wondering if anybody has driven down to the states with one day permit. I'm planning to go to Seattle and was wondering if I would have any problems.

If I am able to drive down there, I want to store my car at my sister's place for a little while. If I am able to cross the border, should I tell them what I am planning to do or just go down there and park it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

I can see you getting hassled at the border going down. They will probably be asking why you can't store the car up here. Better be prepared for a lot questions.

And do you know what the Justice System calls that?

Why dont you just buy a 3 month insurance or whatever and cancel it when you are in canada?

It depends on what you want to do with the car. You are not being very specific, so it is very hard to answer your question.

It might be hard to get storage insurance at your sister's place.. since the car is out of the country. ICBC will give it to you, but they won't cover it if anything bad happens during storage, since the car is out of the province at the time (so it is useless).

You can drive down with day permit.. they honestly don't care. You will get asked more questions because they can't do an OCR on the plate, when you drive through the cameras and they have to type the info in.

My car's a 1974 Datsun 260Z and right now i'm just trying to save up some funds for the car, so i can fix it up. I dont have room up here and my sister has room at her place in Seattle. I don't want to sell and the only thing I can think of doing is, is to store the car for a year or two. Don't really care about storage insurance.

Im gonna be buying goodies for it, so when im ready to build, I will bring it back up. All I want to do is to store and nothing else. I do have actual plates on the car and it was insured for the summer. I'm still keeping the plates on it, except it will just have one day permit in the window.

Thanks for all the input.
