Wait... I just want to clarify, if I open a new plan with Bell, can I put that sim card onto an unlocked phone that I got in HK?? Or do I need to buy a specific Bell phone for the sim card?

Bloody hell why PM when you're going to post here anyway? :D

Bell and Telus both run UMTS/HSPA+ ONLY, which means unless those phones from Hong Kong have 3G on the 850 and 1900 Mhz frequencies, they will not work on Bell. Contrary to popular belief, Telus and Bell do not have GSM, they are 3G only. "Quad-band" phones from HK will work on Rogers and Fido just fine as they will run on 2G, but they will not work on Bell or Telus.

^Sorry brotha, but you are of good help sir. Now I gota find me a good phone.... sigh....

Just curious, but does anyone know how much it costs to switch from a built-in card on my Bell phone to a SIM?

I dropped and fucked up my Bell HTC Diamond, and my friend is willing to give me her Roger's HTC Diamond, so I'm thinking of doing that assuming the Bell SIM will work fine in her GSM phone.

Here's some information if you guys can help me out on determining if it works on the Bell network.

First of all, check if the Sim card slot of the Roger's HTC diamond is compatible with the Bell Sim cards. I believe Sim cards cost 5 bucks and for a 3 year service agreement it's $0 dollars. :lol
Here's a tool that bell provides to see if the Sim will fit in the phone. It should fit. :/

Anyway, guys I need some opinion. Telus and Bell offers similar if not exactly the same plans. Which company should I jump on? (Ex rogers user) Oh and one more question. If I run bell and if I do buy a phone from Asia. Would it work with the network?

Razor Ramon HG 11-30-2009 08:46 PM

Ugh, not compatible. GG!

Huh? What do you mean not compatible? SIMs are all the same, they won't be different shapes or sizes. If the Rogers Diamond is unlocked, it will work with a Bell SIM. Theoretically.

skyxx 11-30-2009 11:54 PM

^ So you're saying that Bell thing is a SCAM!. :cry. Okay I fail. FAIL ME :(

+Kardboard+ 12-01-2009 12:02 AM

It is with many tears and a reluctant hand that I do this, but, but, if you must, then FAIL YOU I SHALL.

:bowrofl:

I know we walked over this once before, but just in case.. :lol

Should I just walk into a Bell store, and just tell them I want a SIM card with my preexisting 3 year plan? They'll deactivate the built-in one on my CDMA HTC Touch Diamond, right? So let's say the SIM doesn't work in my unlocked GSM HTC Touch Diamond, can I get them to reactivate the one in my CDMA?

But yeah, the bands in the GSM should work on the Bell network, right?

yuusha 12-01-2009 01:18 AM

Why does Bell ask for your device's IMEI in order to determine whether or not your device is "compatible" with their network? D: I'm also under the impression that as long as the device has UMTS/HSPA 850/1900, it'll work fine...

*SMACK*

BELL DOES NOT HAVE GEE-ESS-EMMM!!!! It's UMTS/HSPA only, so it's 3G........ONLY.

Now that's been said, you'll likely need to buy one of their HSPA phones...confirm with them first, as in one of their newspaper ads they do mention unlocked phones and how you can bring them over to Bell now. That was on the day they launched the network in the Globe, I believe. Worst comes to worst, they'll make you buy a crappy HSPA phone from them first. :lol

skyxx 12-01-2009 12:58 PM

^ FUUUUUU I shouldn't have cancelled my Rogers. I have 26 days left with them LOL...... But regardless if I buy a phone from Asia, it should still work. God this is confusing! why can't they all shake hands and be friends! Like RS....oh wait nvm...

So a Rogers GSM HTC Touch Diamond should work on the Bell then since it has UMTS? Would HSDPA/HSUPA count as HSPA?

yuusha 12-01-2009 02:45 PM

^yes.

It goes GSM then above that is UMTS then above that is HSPA/HSDPA/HSUPA.

As long as it is at least UMTS, has 850 and 1900 Mhz 3G bands (NOT JUST GSM), it is compatible with Bell and Telus. However, I don't know how network settings and stuff would be like. Chances are they'll be autodetected and everything will be peachy. Just HoFo it, I'm sure all those Torontonians have done it already, if not folks here.

Razor Ramon HG 12-01-2009 07:59 PM

Thanks guys. I'll give it a shot.

Tim Budong 12-01-2009 08:05 PM

i updated the 2g/3g FAQ
give it a read and it will solve everything

skyxx 12-01-2009 10:55 PM

^ It's more clear now. i was confused at first between UTMS and HSDPA But they're basically the same thing.

+Kardboard+ 12-01-2009 11:37 PM

No, not the same thing. Related, and one is better than the other. :p

bcrdukes 12-01-2009 11:41 PM

UMTS - Speech
HSPA/DPA/UPA - Packet Data

skyxx 12-01-2009 11:42 PM

So if it says HSDPA 850/1900/2100. That means it can be used for voice and data right?(North America). I'm beating a dead horse...LOl

Tim Budong 12-02-2009 01:42 AM

exactly that
that can be used in all things

Tim Budong 12-02-2009 05:11 AM

Im going to double post...yes

As long as it says this then yes
the network needs BOTH 850mhz and 1900mhz to run

just 1900mhz isnt going to cut it

Tim Budong 12-08-2009 11:19 PM

im going to add some shit to the FAQ once i get my hands on bellus sims and try it out
