Bell and Telus both run UMTS/HSPA+ ONLY, which means unless those phones from Hong Kong have 3G on the 850 and 1900 Mhz frequencies, they will not work on Bell. Contrary to popular belief, Telus and Bell do not have GSM, they are 3G only. "Quad-band" phones from HK will work on Rogers and Fido just fine as they will run on 2G, but they will not work on Bell or Telus.

Just curious, but does anyone know how much it costs to switch from a built-in card on my Bell phone to a SIM?

I dropped and fucked up my Bell HTC Diamond, and my friend is willing to give me her Roger's HTC Diamond, so I'm thinking of doing that assuming the Bell SIM will work fine in her GSM phone.

Here's some information if you guys can help me out on determining if it works on the Bell network.

First of all, check if the Sim card slot of the Roger's HTC diamond is compatible with the Bell Sim cards. I believe Sim cards cost 5 bucks and for a 3 year service agreement it's $0 dollars. :lol

Huh? What do you mean not compatible? SIMs are all the same, they won't be different shapes or sizes. If the Rogers Diamond is unlocked, it will work with a Bell SIM. Theoretically.

Should I just walk into a Bell store, and just tell them I want a SIM card with my preexisting 3 year plan? They'll deactivate the built-in one on my CDMA HTC Touch Diamond, right? So let's say the SIM doesn't work in my unlocked GSM HTC Touch Diamond, can I get them to reactivate the one in my CDMA?

But yeah, the bands in the GSM should work on the Bell network, right?

Why does Bell ask for your device's IMEI in order to determine whether or not your device is "compatible" with their network? D: I'm also under the impression that as long as the device has UMTS/HSPA 850/1900, it'll work fine...

BELL DOES NOT HAVE GEE-ESS-EMMM!!!! It's UMTS/HSPA only, so it's 3G........ONLY.

Now that's been said, you'll likely need to buy one of their HSPA phones...confirm with them first, as in one of their newspaper ads they do mention unlocked phones and how you can bring them over to Bell now. That was on the day they launched the network in the Globe, I believe. Worst comes to worst, they'll make you buy a crappy HSPA phone from them first. :lol

It goes GSM then above that is UMTS then above that is HSPA/HSDPA/HSUPA.

As long as it is at least UMTS, has 850 and 1900 Mhz 3G bands (NOT JUST GSM), it is compatible with Bell and Telus. However, I don't know how network settings and stuff would be like. Chances are they'll be autodetected and everything will be peachy. Just HoFo it, I'm sure all those Torontonians have done it already, if not folks here.
