Picked up a 9700 last week. Came from a Pearl that some how lasted 3 years. Telus had a 72 hour deal $0 phone on 1 year term. couldnt lose while waiting on the 9900 to launch.

Upgraded to latest OS6, and spent 2 full days customizing the phone. literally every possible option was looked at hah.

Fucking love this thing!

Picked up a screen protector and OEM style soft pouch as mine came with a belt clip pouch.

Anyway, I have a couple issues. about 50% of the time when I launch something in the browser it says it could not connect to server. All websites do it. I havent paid enough attention to notice if it only does it on 3G or WiFi or both. Any suggestions?

Also, I've been unable to setup my work email on it, I enter the setup info (login/pass, server/account) exactly how it should be and it tells me i have the incorrect login. fuu

Also, any recommended apps? I dont have any. I dont feel I need any, but hey, why not. hah Maybe some type of better calendar or scheduler or some kind of notes/schedule app? It gets a lot of miles for work schedules and notes.

Just to make sure, you are on a data plan correct? Download "opera mini" from blackberry's web browser and use that app. It's a blackberry browser app but much better than the "orginial one". I've always had problems with blackberrys "original" browser, and opera mini runs smoother.

I think you're entering your work emails on it rather than the BlackBerry Internet Service [BIS]. You'll need to make a BIS account if you haven't done so. When I first got my 9700, i could make an account straight from the phone, but now RIM has deleted that option apparently. Here's a tutorial on how to make a BIS account:

For schedules and notes, I don't use any "better" apps than the calendar or memopad app..you could try Word to Go as a substitute for memopad

A couple of apps I use are:

Word to Go - Great app for taking notes. You can transfer your word files onto your phone and they open perfectly.
CameraMuteApp - :lol title of the app says what it does. It's an app to mute that sound when you take a picture
Facebook - Self explanatory
Twitter - Self explanatory
MMAJunkie - Great app if you're a big MMA fan like I am. Keeps you up to the latest on the MMA world with articles.
GoogleMaps - Really helpful app that is pretty self explanatory
Canucks App - Self explanatory
CanadaPost - I just use it to check where my packages are at
BlackBerry Protect - App that can locate where your phone is if it ever gets stolen/lost etc
DictionaryApp - Bitches love a man that has good vocab
BerryBuzz - I really recommend this app. When you get a text the LED light flashes really slow right? This app "modifies" the LED light and you can choose a colour on what it flashes and it flashes faster, so you know you got a text, instead of just checking your phone constantly.
OperaMini - Explained above
Flixster - It's the Rotten Tomatoes app basically. You can watch trailers from your phone, see what movies released, the fresh and rotten scores etc.
TheScore - App to check sports scores
BBM - Self explanatory

thanks alot! ya ive got data haha.

os6 came with word to go i think or a trial for it. i wonder if open office has a mobile app as thats what i use for my word program

ill check into the BIS. will that sync or whatever my email with my outlook?

i would love to be able to do my invoicing from my phone thru open office and export to pdf to send in an email from my phone.

something else i noticed is the camera is slow as shit, is there a fix for that or is that just how it is? it takes like a second to capture the picture, usually late.

I'm not familiar with Outlook so I can't say for sure...can you use hotmail and gmail on outlook? If so, it should work I guess. I just use hotmail and gmail and they sync to my phone. Gmail emails syncs right away, hotmail takes like 1-15 minutes to receive the email.

Did you upgrade to OS6 from desktop manager or did you download a leak? Desktop manager upgrades are slow as shit and it could be affecting your camera.

I'm running OS 6 on my 9700 and switching apps is a breeze.

If you need any assistance on upgrading your phone, don't be afraid to ask :)

ive been running os6 on my phone since it was leaked on crackberry :stfu: :)
and it's updated to the most current version. Next I will give it a week or two and then reinstall the os

RRxtar 06-28-2011 08:36 PM

my email is from a website hosted on afmu.com

tried setting it up 10 different ways, including thru BIS. the BIS wouldnt recognize my phone to let me create an account. Im going to punch this thing in the mouth

spades 06-28-2011 11:27 PM

^you could try automatically forwarding all the your emails from that account to a seperate gmail or hotmail account, that should work im guessing.

Anyone having problems with their camera flash? Stops working after a while and only comes back on after a battery pull.

Yeah, ever since I upgraded to OS6 I only get a flash for the first picture I take. If I try to take another picture, the flash stops working.

It's a known issue with the OS6 leaks.

OS6 is definitely worth the upgrade though, huge step up from OS5 imo.

Definitely upgrade it. Although there are a few issues with OS6 like the camera not flashing, it's definitely worth the upgrade.

XplicitLuder 06-29-2011 02:05 PM

alright i upgraded it. love the new style and what not, gonna have to get used to no flash sometimes haha

wingies 06-29-2011 04:56 PM

BaoTurbo 06-29-2011 10:49 PM

This is the piece I'm talking about.

I don't recommend buying just that piece. Buy the bezel that includes that piece installed.

ohh fancy pants.

its probably just a bug in the latest software version. is it an official version or a beta? either way, check on crackberry for the most stable software version.

saucywoman 07-09-2011 11:01 AM

os6 is the available upgrade on the 9700 now I think, cause I was just trying a sys restore and had it for os6... hate this phone and switched to the iphone
