Car service manuals

Hey guys,

Sorry in advance if this is a stupid question, but I am wondering what resources are used when I want to fix my car. For example, the trunk mechanism of my car is currently not releasing when I pull the in-cabin release, but works perfectly with the key. I want to pull the rear bumper off and try to tinker around with the actuator but would feel much better if there was a detailed schematic that I could follow of the entire mechanism. Which manuals are the most popular and where would I be able to obtain one?

The car in question is a 2007 Subaru Impreza.

Thanks in advance!

have u try looking under the trunk and see if the cable is still attached to the lock mech?
the only manual i have is for a 04sti, which "should" be the same, but u'll have to give me a few days to find it.

^ Hey dude!
Let me know if you can find it through PM. Hopefully I'll be able to borrow it. Want to see what I can do about it myself...:)

Thanks!

You can try AllData at VPL:

http://www.vpl.vancouver.bc.ca/elect...bases/cat/C194

or you can just type Subaru factory torrent in google;)

better yet, i found a copy online right here:

http://ken-gilbert.com/wrx/STi_Manual/index.htm

section 14 - 17

it doesnt mention much tho. just search for keyword trunk.

THank you guys so much!!!!

I've taken apart the trunk lining and have looked at the cable actuator. There seems to be an inch too much slack that's preventing the ball at the end of the wire from fully pulling the latch open. I can't get into the actual opening mechanism yet.. i may have to save that for when I pull the bumper off...:(

have u tried pulling on the cable? if it comes out all the way it's most likely snapped int he middle.
did u check out the in cabin release yet? maybe the cable got disconnect from there thats why there's slack?

I've tried to pull the cable out but it won't give. I've tugged at the cabin release and it does make an engagement noise right at the trunk latch, it's just that there is too much slack on the cable so that even when the cabin release is fully pulled, the latch isn't opening. Any suggestions on how to approach this? I think that for the time being I may look at a ghetto fix such as a bicycle brake adjusting screw...=(

bought the car used. apparently the bumper has been taken off before, so it wouldn't be under warranty. =(

TOPEC 11-05-2009 01:21 PM

if bumpers been off its probably been in an accident b4.
since u bought used, what color/year/model is it? was it a "limited" edition?

bob_chan 11-05-2009 04:13 PM

nonlimited cgm 07 STI!

underscore 11-05-2009 05:44 PM

see if you can find pics of another 07's release setup. I know when I got my 92 Celica the lever from the drivers seat didn't pop the trunk, I took the plastic off and compared it to my friends. Turned out the cable had simply slipped off one of the guides so Ipopped it back on and voila! working trunk release lever!
