Genesis Coupe 2.0T R spec

So basically a stripped out version of the 2.0T GT/Track
You save $3000 in the states and it's lighter
but you keep the brembos, LSD and the bigger wheels :)

However, at a savings of $3,000, you can guess that there are going to be some sacrifices. In the name of weight savings, Hyundai has dropped some of the creature comforts, such as the automatic headlights, cruise control, trip computer, chrome interior accents, steering wheel audio controls, and Bluetooth hands-free calling system. We're thinking this is more of a cost-saving measure, because none of these components really seem to weigh all that much.
Meanwhile, the stripped-out Genesis still retains heavier creature comforts such as air conditioning, power steering, a six-speaker audio system with iPod compatibility, and power windows.
The R-Spec is available only in red, black, and white and should start hitting dealerships this month
Damn did they really have to take out the trip computer? >.<
Personally this isn't bad for a daily since even though it's "stripped out" it's still got the same suspension and a/c so comfort-wise should be about the same unlike a GT3RS,

Whats your take? Would you rather have an extreme lightweight model with roll down windows, a/c delete, 18" wheels, no stereo etc.?

vexor 11-07-2009 10:33 AM

Are they ever gonna bring it for sale here in Canada?

Personally I like this car but If they had gone more "extreme" weight shedding (A/C, pwr windows, etc) I would of hated it mainly because I wouldn't have enough money then to get another car as a daily driver.

Berzerker 11-07-2009 10:37 AM

They didn't say how much weight they saved. It would be a huge factor. I mean if its only 100lbs then is it really worth losing all that stuff? It's not really worth it unless its 300lbs or more.

Berz out.

ilvtofu 11-07-2009 10:42 AM

^It's about 70 pounds, but mainly to save $

Mugen EvOlutioN 11-07-2009 11:36 AM

not bad

Prostrho 11-07-2009 11:58 AM

2 word.. CAMBER BOLTS!!!

Mr.Jay 11-07-2009 12:29 PM

so sad that this is what the consider a stripped out version

ilvtofu 11-07-2009 04:56 PM

^If you look at it that way, yes, but if you take it as an economical, mod-able, daily drivable, track car it's actually not half bad, Actually makes more sense than getting the base 2.0T to me

Meister1982 11-07-2009 06:23 PM

They should offer the car with and without ac as option. Same thing with power steering

Seems like a decent price like the evo rs if someone wants to bring it to the track.

bcedhk 11-07-2009 08:14 PM

i'd stick with the GT and keep the things they remove.

Audio steering wheel removed,, thats like taking of <5 pounds -_-

124Y 11-07-2009 08:19 PM

lol that's not exactly "stripped out" :lol

death_blossom 11-07-2009 08:27 PM

removing the trip computer is called "stripping out"? what a joke.

I agree to make power steering and a/c an option, or remove them altogether. that would help Hyundai make a lot more money off this stripped out model.

xpl0sive 11-09-2009 01:00 PM

did you really compare a genesis to a GT3RS? really?

RabidRat 11-09-2009 01:10 PM

so maybe it's not really "stripped out", but getting the LSD and the brembos while paying the base model price is not bad right? the idea appeals to me anyway.

shenmecar 11-09-2009 01:57 PM

I actually wouldnt mind losing all those electronic gadgets for saving 70lbs and $3000.

Although having a trip computer would be handy.......meh, can definitely do without.

hk20000 11-09-2009 01:57 PM

base model price - 3000 too I'd hit it. Whoever packaged this is a genious. compared to whoever packaged the S2000 CR is a fucking idiot.

ilvtofu 11-09-2009 02:26 PM

Yup for the price of the base you get better wheels, lsd, and brakes

Which for a typical RS member can't even be considered a trade off for stuff like cruise control, and steering wheel controls...

Well you're also saying whoever packaged the GT3RS and F430 Scurderia are idiots too.

And I agree with you. :D

Why the hell would anyone pay MORE for LESS?

Blue92 11-09-2009 03:47 PM

To go faster...

ilvtofu 11-09-2009 03:54 PM

+ the curb appeal of a gt3rs vs a regular gt3...

kkttsang 11-09-2009 07:47 PM

when is the R spec hitting the dealers?

Peturbo 11-09-2009 09:42 PM

I wouldn't call this "striped" but i really like this package.
Everything they are taking out, I would never really use anyways.
Except for music control and trip computer, but those are really just a bit more convenient. Easy to go without.
These are a great trade off for those brembos, wheels, and the LSD.
