How old is she? In general, I think a new car for a new driver is a mistake, as is reliance on something like a backup camera. She's better off learning a bit about how big her car is rather than using a crutch when sometimes that crutch might be unavailable. If you really care about her, you'll get her a car that meets her needs and budget before you think about having fun with her car ;). On that topic, what are her needs for practicality? Does she need to move shit about? I would recommend FWD and probably snow tires, so something like the Civic / Corolla / Sentra / Integra / RSX. She might like the Fit or how about a Mini Cooper (cute and all that )?! People should develop the habit of reducing speeds appropriately in snow (maintaining smoothness in car control) rather than figuring out how to use oversteer to get out of a sticky situation. |
is coupe a must?..if not base subaru impreza hatchback will fall under $30k for sure |

auto DC5 is more than enough , better than a civic |
This thread is full of fail. It's her FIRST CAR.. she's going to dent it, smack it into things, other people, etc. Why get a nice car for the first car? It's a waste. Get a Civic. Or a Cavalier. Or a Corolla. Something that is cheap to fix, but who cares if you fix it anyway. |
I agree with a used civic or rsx. It'll be cheaper to fix when she hits something. Is she set on a back up camera? She should learn without it, what if she drives your car in the future and you dont have one? |
she is dead set on a coupe. In fact she only likes curvy cars like g35 genesis non the boxy cars like fit or mini (probably the only girl that think mini is ugly). I will have her look at the integras and rsx seems like something she might like. She is very optimistic about her driving and her new car. She intend to keep the car for a looooong time hench why she wants to start with a new car. The backup camera is not a must, she only found out there is such gadget because my ride come with one stock. I told her I learn to park the old fashion way with mirrors and common sense and also that backup camera is not 100% reliable and can distort distance depending on the weather condition, she understands but think it will be good to have "just in case". Unless she get the g35 or 370(it's getting less and less likely) the camera won't be an option anywyas, I will teach her how to park properly and let her learn before installing it for her if she still wants it Practicality wise she will only use the car to get to school and to my house sing k etc, so big trunk and backseat is not necessary. If she does need to move shit i drive a suv so it's covered. Keep the suggestion comming, appreciate this you guys have suggest many cars I have miss out Posted via RS Mobile |
whole point of a first car is to be able to learn from your mistakes. like everyone else has said, smashing up a cheaper car is the best idea. your gf needs to live in reality. she can't possibly handle an FR car in the snow w/o snow tires. hell, she probably can't drive in the snow with an FF car. this being said, i'd go with the civic and add snow tires. she can be as ignorant as she wants until she crashes and finally realises how much it costs to fix everything. |
new toyota corolla, I think those look sick no joke. Easy to drive could use as a DD. Perfect car for a beginner driver. And its probably like 20k fully loaded or something? Or the new prius starts at 27 500 |
^ she wants a sporty couple though. if she didnt, there would be no discussion cause there are sooo many 4drs out there that would be great dds. |
I say used GTi 2007/08 around 20k nowadays or used RSX/WRX which can be a little bit cheaper and probably older Mini coopers aren't bad for a girl either. This volvo C30 rarer car, not your typical honger mobile http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/va...443211733.html |
How about a newer celica? Girls love those cars. Otherwise I vote for GTI... |
I would just recommend a 10k used car, and save the money for next year when she has some experience. By that time she can sell the 10k used car for a bit less or a lot less for what she bought it for, depending on the condition of the car, and combine that money with the 20k to get a used G35 or 350z. that is just my opinion |
Genesis Coupe 2.0T R spec |

Thinking back to my first car, so many scratch dents and end up being totalled maybe a used car is a much better choice. I'm concern with safety feature if she does get into accidents, which of the cars mention beside Volvo would be the safest? No disrepect to Volvo my family had 1 it was a tank but it was the dullest car I have ever came in contact with and have way too many problems Posted via RS Mobile |
Ferrari 348 TB, obviously |

That volvo should be fairly reliable as everything is just old hand me down stuff XD |
if the car she picks has decent rims, take them off and put on crappy scratched-up rims. I remember learning how to drive in a corolla, and shit i fucked up those rims... |

PM me if you decide on used GTI, i have a white one for sale, 2 door, auto, immaculate condition on another note.... just got her license?.... 16/17/18?..... JB?.... :D |
if you want cheap insurance dont get a civic coupe, my friend's civic coupe's insurance cost more than my trans am and we both have the same discount rate. |
my girl likes the celica and the tiburon. which 1 is a better buy? which has a better interior, better on maintenance? how about insurance which one willl be better? |
Eww tiburon, after the gen coupe came out i'm surprised anyone still looks at that, You can buy a used celica pretty cheap an older one say 02, personally I like the RSX better though, cleaner style and nicer interior, but toyotas do last forever! ;) |
02-04 rsx auto is pretty much the best bang for the buck in your descrption however..the insurance might be a bit higher than a civic but probably less than a gti (since it's non type-S) |
http://www.autocult.com.au/img/galle...eOmata3709.jpg http://z.about.com/d/cars/1/0/T/Y/hm...buron_dash.jpg The hyundai's interior looks slightly better, but honestly, I'd go with a toyota. And yeah, I'd definitely pick the RSX over the tiburon any day. Insurance will probably be roughly the same. 30g is quite a bit, all of these cars should be around 10-16g |
