I arrived at the Westin Bayshore just before 2pm, my scheduled time for the test drive. I parked my 640 and was given a warm welcome by the LoV staff. Before too long, the Veyron arrived at the front entrance to the hotel, the previous driver gets out of the car all smiles. Then I was introduced and I shook hands with the Bugatti F1 driver and the chief engineer. Paper work was signed so that if I break it, I buy it. Now, I was ready to go.
The F1 driver took the car out with me as the passenger. He drove into Stanley Park all the while explaining the workings of the car to me. I was excited just being the passenger, and I know soon I will be in control of the 1001 hp supercar. With onlookers pointing at us, he pulled over and we switched seats. I continued the drive in Stanley Park, and took the exit to the Lions Gate Bridge. I knew we would be heading for the highway.
The car feels luxurious. The seating position is excellent, a bit higher up than the 640, so it is more comfortable. The seat hugs me at all the right places for the twisties. The suspension is firm, and not as uncomfortable as my 640 on a long drive. Behind me the engine purrs smoothly. There is a constant turbo whine that sounds like a jet engine turbine. At the punch of the throttle, the turbo noise is like that of an afterburner igniting. The steering is solid, with a German feel, very precise, with little or no road vibrations felt. The car felt safe and planted to the road even on the wet roads. The exhaust note is a bit subdued, however, thus almost deceiving me to think that perhaps there isn't 1001 hp behind me. Then, a straight stretch of highway is upon me, with no cars in front. My right foot turns to lead, firing up the 4 Afterburners and kicking me back onto my seat as I am propelled into warp speed; and that was only in 4th gear. The next full throttle I did was in 2nd gear, manual mode. Even though it was only for a few seconds, I must say that I have not felt such G-forces before in a road car. The acceleration is so smooth and effortless. Gear changes are not felt at all because the twin clutch SMG always has the next gear selected, thus there is no drop in power during gear upshifts. At cruising speed and on "D" mode, the car's hp meter tells me only 75hps are used. When I stabbed her in 2nd on "M" mode, the meter read 700hps.
Priced at 1.6m Euros or about 2.2m Cdn, it is a very exclusive GT supercar. I was very honored and privileged to have experienced such a fine automobile. However, IMHO, I was thinking to myself, for that amount of money, I would rather get several supercars to fill my garage.
It was time to pull up to the hotel and pass the car onto the next driver. I thanked all those who made this event possible. Took some more pictures. Got into my car and started her up, smiling, LP640's music is better http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/sho...88343&page=465 | |
