Computer Speakers

I searched RS and it seems everybody recommends the z5500, unfortunately I can't afford those atm. I've went around on craigslist and I've found the logitech G51 andX-540 for around 100-120$ each. Are the z5500's that amazing? Right now I'm looking at either buying the speakers on craigslist or waiting till boxing day and see if I can find the z5500's around 250$

So my question is are there better speakers out there? Should I use real speakers? (like Hondaracer basically if I read his post correctly) Also how much do the z5500's go on sale for?

Well I'm running the X-530, I think the predecessor to the X-540, and they're great for computer/gaming speakers. They're very clear and the bass is nothing insane but it definitely gets the job done, I like whatever they put in there that makes it impossible for me to blow the sub up.

Here is the side by side comparison

Brand new on the site the 540's are $139.99 and the 5500's are $549.99, so I don't think you'd see them for $250 unless it's a crazy sale item.

Logitech speakers almost doubled in price the past year.
x-540 is fricken $100 plus dollars when it used to be $50-80.

Out of a blue moon the z5500 will go on sale for $300 new these days and for that price it's rare.

I used to use a X-530. And then upgraded to Z-5300e. I couldn't afford the Z-5500 at the time. And even today, I probably wouldn't spend that much for it.

But you should ask yourself what kind of person are you. Are you an audiophile?

I can honestly say for myself, I'm not. I've bought various speakers and gaming headphones all claiming to be "SOOO" much better than the other... and it turns out I dished out an extra $50-200 for better speakers (mainly because ads and reviews said so), yet the differences weren't that much better. At least for me.

If you don't mind 2.1, the Z-2300 is very good too and cheaper.

I had the Z-2300's and were very good, I upgraded to Z-5500's and can't say I use them to their potential.

Speakers sound similar, there's more speakers and the sub is bigger on the Z5500's. I don't listen to it THAT loud so the Z2300's would've been more than sufficient.

Do you have the space to setup 5.1?

My friend has the x-540s and they do sound pretty good, I don't quite remember how the z5500s sounded so I can't really do a direct comparison.

I currently have 2.1 so I don't really see the point of upgraded to yet another 2.1 system, and to answer Cman333, I believe my new house does have room for a 5.1 setup

Speakers are functional devices for the computer which are useful for recreation as well as other purposes. The choice of buying computer speakers depends on ur purpose. Simply if you are a pro and have to do works like sound or video editing and want to make the game come alive, then definitely you will have to opt for multi-channel high end speakers.

staples at grandview highway has logitech z2300 for i think $169.97 with another 25% off... so that's roughly $130 for a set of speakers that look bad ass. I think they're 200 or 400W...

x-540s are what I have and they're pretty good. the only problem I have with them is the cables that come with the speakers are very very short so to make them 5.1 surround sound is kind of tricky unless your computer area is pretty small

do they not all use RCA's? all mine but the front right with the controller use RCA so it can be extended easily with a cable + gender changer or just an extension cable, and I think the cable for the front right is just a serial cable anyways.

am i the only one who doesn't like logitech speakers!??!
I owned 2 sets before, both of them has out of whack bass.

It is good for loud action movies and games, but very annoying for quiet music and tv show. (you hear the bass hump when ppl talks...)

^ I've had that happen twice where a character in a movies voice happens to just get into the subs range, I just turn down the bass or fiddle with the audio settings on my computer.

haha yeah they're just basic RCA's and they can be extended, but that just means more work and more money spent on the cables spent on the speakers when most sets usually have long enough cables.
the speakers got where i wanted them to go, just barely, so i didn't need to do it, but i was super surprised when i unpacked it all.
i've never had this voice into bass problem before... that's kinda odd =\

I got the G51 last year at FutureShop boxing week for 79.99 and so far it's awesome for my use. It's great for computer games as u have have true 5.1. Bass is very good, not earth shattering, but more than enuff for average users. I also hooked it up to my PS3 and it simulates a 5.1 sourround sound system pretty well. I can hear ppl coming from behind. I havent tried the Z5500 so I dunno how much better it is. But if u'r not a hardcore audiophile, then I doubt u'll really need it.

Computer speakers are speakers external to a computer that disable the lower fidelity build-in speaker. They often have a low-power internal amplifier.Computer speakers range widely in quality and in price. The computer speakers typically packaged with computer systems are small plastic boxes with mediocre sound quality. Some of the slightly better computer speakers have equalization features such as bass and treble controls, improving their sound quality somewhat.

LoL, been waiting for the z5500's for over a year now to go back on sale. Hoping to get them 200-250 max range. I'm tempted though to get a 2.1 as well, been too long of a wait. Hopefully boxing day is good.
