32" 720p for PC?
 

Is there a significant difference in sharpness and contrast between a 720p and a 1080p of the same size for a PC monitor?

there's a big difference

1080p would be a much better res and small print especially on a 32
tho 720p on a 32 (if i remember ...) was pretty good

now that I upgraded to 1080p on a 40", I just wont go back

Damn it, I got the Dynex special today at Best Buy for $299.99, the next model up is almost $200 bucks more..

Justifiable?

It also depends how close you'll be sitting in front of the tv

when i worked at bestbuy with aznboi, i bought the dynex 32'' for computer use, then afterwards i sold it, and bought a 46'' 1080p samsung monitor

however, i dont run at 1920x1080 resolution, because its way tooooo sharp, so i run a resolution lower since its much much softer

using a dvi -> hdmi cord

the dynex is good for the price

for a pc monitor on a desk? 1920x1080 on a 30" seems to small... hell my 24" at 1920x1200 is great, anything bigger and I'd want a larger res too.

I sit 1.5~2 feet away from my 32" TV - it is 1080p and looks great. 720p would've been too low res (only 1366x768) and the texts would've been way too big.

If you're using it mainly as a PC monitor you'll want 1080p (1920x1080), espeically if you sit close to it.

Yeah I wouldn't use 720 for a desktop monitor. 1080p ftw

Well you guys have convinced me to get a 1080p instead.

I'll be sitting approximately 1 - 1.5 ft. away when using my PC, which one would be better for my needs?

I'll be using this to play PS3 games as well, but 1080p is kind of insignificant.

Sitting that close to a 40 inch screen will you even be able to see the whole screen???

Well, I don't see any issues sitting that close viewing a 32" (considering I'm running Dual Display with 19s at the moment), but I'm not so sure about a 40" though.

Will a 6600GT be sufficient for 1920x1080?

yea 1920x180 is the highest res a single link dvi port can display (every card with dvi is at least single link dvi) as long as you dont expect to run any high end games you will be fine.

as for 32" vs 40" i'd go with 32" (the brands dont matter since both are instore house brands made by random companies), 1080 will look better on a 32" sitting real close at a desk.

jesus christ. my 37" monitor/tv is blinding even from across the room, not to mention the heat. how can you use a 32" from 1.5 ft away? any monitor bigger than 24" sould be 1080p or better. everything will look grainy from that close.

you people need to check your eyes.

I have a 2ft (depth) desk and I already think my wall mounted 24" LCD is too big.
anything bigger will cause neck strain.

720p = 1280x768. It's good enough for everyday use. HTPC is perfect in 720p resolution.

I think it all depends on what you are used too.
5 years ago, 15" monitor was the normal size, 17" = big, and 19" = HUGE.
now u can't even find monitor < 19". (18.5" is the smallest i think)

19" 1280x1024 is great, I am typing on a 19" right now. Of course, the more working area the better, especially when you are writing paper, working on excel, browsing website, and doing other research job.

An average internet user or student needs great vertical area, not horizontal area.

I think my 24" is just right, and I sit 2ft away. Any bigger, and I'd have to turn my head to see each side.
I can't imagine sitting 1.5ft in front of a 32" screen...you must get a sore neck from constantly looking up/down, left/right

man I was sitting about 2ft from my 24", it was way too hard on my eyes so now I sit further back. I can't see how sitting 1.5ft from a 32" would be useful for anything other than making your eyes bleed, but yes go for 1080p

i would never use a t.v for a monitor unless it was 1080p mang cmon you cant cheap out on resolution, hell 1080p res might even be too small cause generally 30inch monitors max up to 2400x1600 so... just frack using t.v as a monitor all together. unless your talking the 40" t.v ranges and up then.. well theres no other option i guess

meh. nothing wrong with a 32" 1080p "monitor" that is 1.5~2 ft away from you. Like someone else mentioned earlier it's just a matter of what you're used to.

I started with a 19" 4:3 LCD, sitting about the same distance away - it was clear with big text (since the res was only 1280x1024) but I felt that it lacked the room to fit more stuff on it.

Upgraded to a 24" widescreen a year later, still sitting the same distance away but with 1920x1200 the texts are just too small (I know some of you guys will just increase the DPI, but what's the point of that when you are trying to fit more stuff on the screen?).

Then about 1.5 years ago I got a killer deal on a 32" 1080p TV and everything was just perfect - text size is perfect, got lots of real estate to fit everthing on it, and can still sit back into my chair about 1.5 ~2 ft away, all this without moving my head around like you guys said you would.

Btw, I have 20/20 vision with my glasses on. Nothing wrong with me eyes. :-p There's always the brightness setting that you can lower if you find it too blinding... my TV is calibrated and I can sit in front of it for hours without feeling strained or anything.

Good god. I just use a 23" 1080P Dell monitor and a 20" Samsung 1680x1050 for my desktop. I sit about 1.5-2ft away from the monitors, and they're honestly enough.
