Gaming monitor

So I'm looking to upgrade my 20in Viewsonic monitor to something more suited for gaming, but I'm not sure what I should be looking at.

What brands should I be considering? Samsung/Dell?

What specs should I care about?

Note: My graphics card is the ATI HD4890. I'm looking for something at least 24in, speakers or other things not really necessary. Any recommendations would be nice too.

You can't tell the different between a $200 24" monitor and $500 24" monitor.
just buy whichever within your budget and has the nice look.

lol, you kidding me?

Viewing angles, brightness, color are all better

and i know this because i had the non-ultrasharp which was $150 cheaper beside my ultrasharp for 3 months, it was a noticable difference and i guarantee you there is no $200 24" monitor that even comes close to the $450 non-ultrasharp dell.

of course for most the difference probably does not justify the price difference, but i can tell you there definitely is a difference

like you said, you have two monitors to compare.

Try go to futureshop, you can easily tell which TV looks better and complain
why the others look horrible, but then can you tell if there's only one sitting in store or
the one at home?

Picked up a 24" BenQ E2420HD as 2nd monitor for duel screen setup 2 weeks ago. Its was on sale for 220$ AR at NCIX. Its a pretty good screen for the price, (2xhdmi ports, speakers). Using it now as a primary screen for PC and also for ps3.

Well i started off with the non-ultrasharp and the only issue i had with it were viewing angles which i noticed quite a bit because at the time i was playing WoW and if i was slouching in my chair sometimes i'd notice areas looked much darker or harder to see in low light situations but when i sat up i could see everything, it was minor but it was somthing i noticed right away which the ultrasharp ended up not having

that's hilarious. i can think of so many analogies haha
basically, in this context, anything material that you buy and do not intend to encounter on a daily basis (for comparison) you should cheap out on

how can anyone possible compare a 24"... benQ to an ultrasharp. if no one appreciated the doubling in price equating to some sort of performance/usability gain, they would've killed the line a long time ago. that's like comparing a dynex lcd to an xbr

i stare at my monitor many hours a day. hence i don't cheap out on the monitor, kb/mouse, sound, and chair. just my 2 cents

what's wrong with BenQ? I have my BenQ 24" 2400W for 3 years, and I love it. Don't
mind me, we have an Apple cinema display and had an Eizo at home, I know what
a highend LCD looks like.

Not sure about Dell non-ultrasharp, I am looking at an oem Lenovo 19" at work all day
long, probably the same low end shit as non-ultrasharp, and it is an eye sore. Contrast is
low and very greyish.

Pretty much the difference between TN and IPS panels.

TN panels are cheap to make and have fast response time; but they have crappy viewing angle and color reproduction.

Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.
