why would anyone get this installed in the first place?

Government mandated. I'm sure most people would choose not to have one, but they're forced to anyway.

Not sure of the specifics but it has something to do with DUI's.

i knew a guy who had one installed in his fucking parents mini-van, the guy ended up having a few beers tried to blow, was over and now doesn't have a licence for life i belive..

Why did he lose his licence for life? The device stopped him from driving drunk didn't it?

May have been part of his conditions of release that he remained sober.

ToneCapone 11-22-2009 08:08 PM

not sure if this is true or not but I heard the people who get it installed actually have to pay out of their own pocket for it.

sooner or later somebody is going to find a way to hack/modify it.

but the idea where you have to blow every 5-10 mins is smart cuz you cant just ask your friend to blow it to start the car.

(a friend thats not going with you... if you have a sober friend going with you, your an idiot for still trying to drive yourself)

"When the device is installed, you will pay the
$150 program fee, plus Guardian's $150
installation fee. With monthly monitoring
costs of $105, an alcohol interlock will cost you
over $1,500 for one year. On top of that, the
RDP will cost you $880."

anwsers my question. damn thats expensive shit

We've all heard the stories of someone getting their underage kids to drive because they were too drunk to drive themselves,so it isn't a stretch that they'd get their kids to provide a breath sample.
