Cisco CCNA and CCNP

Where can I take a course that prepares you for the cisco certification exam for a decent price?

thanks in advance.

misteranswer 11-21-2009 07:50 PM

Define decent price.

unit 11-21-2009 08:06 PM

honestly these certs are way overrated! that being said...

i took my course at bcit i would say its pretty expensive. you need 4 modules for ccna and 4 for ccnp. if you dont buy it as part of a program thats around $600 per course i think which adds up to almost 5k for training for both ccna/ccnp. however bcit has some of the best labs for routing/switching so you'd get the most practical experience there.

twitchyzero 11-21-2009 08:39 PM

i did ccna 1 & 2 in high school..failed ccna 2 though lol...i think we only paid $40 for the 2 courses

It was too hardcore for gr 11 students as 'electives'.

Thanks alot i'm leaning towards just doing the CCNA, is there any other certification you recommend than?

lilaznviper 11-24-2009 07:17 PM

CCNA is pretty much good to go
if you really dont feel like paying for the course, you can buy the 4 books needed to do the cert and read up on them then go and pay $350US? i think to do the cert

i think the certs u really need now are the microsoft ones and cisco at min ccna

hotong 11-27-2009 09:58 AM

So I just found out that each course for CCNA is $995 each, which is pretty steep, going to search around for any other schools that offer it.

You get to learn this stuff in high school?! Damn...

Maybe I should just go back to HS instead... cheaper... lol
What else do they teach these days?!

twitchyzero 11-29-2009 09:47 AM

^ i went to killarney..i think it was the only school that offered it at the time

bcrdukes 12-07-2009 05:53 PM

Bump.

Looking into taking courses for the CCNA as my work place is slowly encouraging us to become certified. Any leads? BCIT offers a flexible program especially since I work full-time.

Mr.Jay 12-07-2009 06:00 PM

im pretty sure u can download them

bcit is the place to be for sure if this is the field u want

Wow! is this what high school students are learning these days? that's hardcore.

lilaznviper 12-07-2009 10:35 PM

go to bcit to take the course. you will learn lots

as for downloading material its possible but wont learn a lot.
its better to be able to learn from an instructor who knows their stuff and work on the actually equipment plus get your questions answered

bcrdukes 12-08-2009 05:12 AM

I take it several of you members have taken the CCNA course at BCIT. I would assume they offer hands-on training with the Cisco equipment, correct? Has anybody here taken the part time evening option at their main or downtown campus?

I might go this route as the flexibility of the program is awesome and definitely something my work place will approve with HR in terms of education subsidy.

unit 12-08-2009 08:55 AM

the equipment at the bby campus is great. tons of lab time

bcrdukes 12-08-2009 09:49 AM

^
How are the instructors?

unit 12-08-2009 10:07 AM

i didnt do the part time evening courses, i did full time so they may not be the same instructors.
the instructors for ccna/ccnp were first class. made me wonder what they were doing in a teaching job.

willystyle 12-08-2009 11:14 AM

How important is it for someone like myself who has a IT certificate (no industry certs, but planning to get my diploma) to start off in the IT network industry?

CCNA or MCSE is mandatory?

Do you feel that taking the course (and I'm assuming you wrote the exam) has helped you in your career?

bcrdukes 07-20-2010 04:58 PM

Bump.

Spoke to my manager about this and is pending approval from my director and HR for funding. Has anybody recently taken the course at BCIT? They offer it at their Downtown campus but I don't know if they all use the same equipment for labs. (I assume they would.)

lilaznviper 07-21-2010 11:41 PM

i just finished the ccnp program at bby bcit

loads of equipment to use but you will get lazy and start virtualizing everything
