My car doesn't go reverse, sth wrong with my tranny? I know it sounds dumb. But I hope someone can help me with this. I just got a 2005 mini cooper with automatic transmission (i used to drive a stick shift) , So i was parking back-in, i put on 'reverse' , the car doesn't go backward even i step on the gas pedal. It is 'sliding' foward inside. It feels like as if i have put in N , high rpm with no power or movement at all. So i put on D, and put back to Reverse, now it works. So when i did an inspection, the car shows a sign of engine oil leakage from the top on to the exhaust sth like tat. the automotive guy said it is most likely to be the engine valve. (i dont reli know wht it is ) Does anyone know what's really going on here? Thanks a lot.:confused::confused: |
did you start the car? xD |
haha. i was parking in a parking lot. |
First thing first.... get a proper transmission. :p It sounds like you simply didn't let it click into gear properly. Try playing with it a few times to see if you can replicate the problem. |
hi ya.. but it is an automatic transmission im pretty sure it is in "reverse" model how can i put in gear properly.... i checked few time i was in reverse but it doesn't seem it has engage any gear |
Take it to any BMW shop like The Euro Shop, CG, Nixon etc.. they have the BMW GT1 which can diagnose the problem. It is likely the gear changing circuit board is acting up and need replacing. The GT1 can show you if you are in R is actually outputting the reverse command. All modern BMW don't have direct mechanical connection between the transmission and the lever (hence it is rather pointless for people to ask whether to put their hands of the lever would damage the transmission).. |
