Speeding ticket in Bellingham Washington!

I was going 15miles over speed limit on I5 just outside of bellingham washington, wasn't really paying attention at the speed limit (60miles/hr), It was my fault for that and got pulled over.
The cop gave me a ticket $175 for the violation.

I am just wondering what do you guys do in that situation:

1) Ignore it and don't pay ..... what will happen to me? (with border cross, or how can they track me down and make sure i pay)
2) go to court and try to get a reduction cuz i cant affort that much money although it was my fault.
3) Go to court and plead not guilty (which i am guilty of),,..... this option sucks IMO
4) save up and pay full price

HELP!!

if you consider options that are either 1 or 3, you fail even more!

!SG 11-23-2009 01:22 PM

pay it.

its far worse to get a speeding ticket in the states than is is in canada.

if they catch u again, or while crossing the border, they can have you arrested.

rageguy 11-23-2009 01:30 PM

dont pay. you'll go to jail immediately when you cross the border

slammer111 11-23-2009 01:32 PM

Suck it up and pay it. Wow, they raised the prices. My last one (2007) was $122USD, for 85 in a 70. Bank drafts are the easiest method.

Option 3 is definitely doable, but ask yourself if it's worth $200 to make another trip down there for something you may not win.

Not sure about the border thing, but if you don't pay it and save a few bucks, all you gotta do is make sure you never get pulled over again in WA. ;)

With that said, there should be statute of limitations (like 5 or 10 years) for this kind of stuff, in case some people really do forget to pay.

SumAznGuy 11-23-2009 01:39 PM

I can tell you that I have crossed the border many times since my speeding ticket and my butt is still virgin.

But the last letter I got, my $180 usd ticket became over $1000 when it went to collections.

If you dont pay, SWAT will come into your home and disrespect your whole family.

Also this question has been asked many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many times already. Use the search.

So that's why some cars out on I-5 go EXACTLY the speed limit.. ;) :p

$1000? Oh man that's gutsy.

try doing that YOU RETARD... next time you try to cross the border you'll go to jail.

If you get a speeding ticket for going 15mph over the limit in the US just pay the fee, you'll waste more time / energy / money trying to get a deduction.

wasabisashimi 11-23-2009 02:13 PM

searched abit here and alot of people get by without paying, so the question is to risk or not to risk?

InvisibleSoul 11-23-2009 02:17 PM

I think this has to be the most asked question in the history of RevScene.

I had a ticket once over there and didn't pay. went over many times after that. I don't think the border guys can see anything like that, but who knows.

If you get pulled over again, you may get arrested though.

I believe after 5 years they just get tossed.

ShyGuy 11-23-2009 02:58 PM

you can cross the boarder perfectly fine if you have a speeding ticket...i've done it many times. They don't see the records for that shit...

however if you get pulled over again they could put you in jail.

SumAznGuy 11-23-2009 03:11 PM

One thing to remember. If you get a ticket and do not pay it, the Washington State DMV will send you a letter to let you know the ticket has been sent to collections and your driving privillages in Washington state has been suspended.
If you are caught driving in Washington with a suspended liscence, most likely you will be arrested and your car will be impounded.

The fine that went to collections will go up quickly, and collections will call your house asking you to pay up.

wasabisashimi 11-23-2009 03:13 PM

Fine i will just save up and pay. (hopefully, within 15 days as it says on back of ticekt)..

keifun 11-23-2009 03:27 PM

^yeah like others have said.
You can still cross the border to WA, but just don't drive!

DeathChill 11-23-2009 07:46 PM

They cops on the I5 really seem to target Canadians. It's funny to watch someone driving with the flow of US traffic and watching the cop single out the Canadian one to pull over. Maybe it's just me that noticed this.

Mugen EvOlutioN 11-23-2009 08:12 PM

prepared to get arrested the next time u cross the border if u dont pay the fine

Nope this is totally true. I just got a ticket today for going absolutely the speed limit. I was going about 120km (72mph give or take) *Limit of 70mph*, I saw a cop up ahead abt 5 cars or so, so I slowed down to about 110km or 115km, traveled for anotehr minute or so.

I see a cop car about 8 cars back, all while the other cop is in front of me. The cop behind speeds up extremely quickly so I moved over to the middle lane, and he follows right behind me and pulls me over.

He says i was going 80mph (128km), I was positive I was not as I was maintaing my speed to the cop in front. He asks me "What? You dont think you were going 80?"

Gave me a ticket for $120, I do not want to pay this fine as I was not speeding at all, but I do not want to turn this into a hassle and make it all complicated.

Cops down there basically know that there is a next to 0 chance that you would dispute it so they pick on canadians because they have no choice but to pay it.

My gf got ticketed last year driving down going the same speed as traffic. My buddies got pulled over last week also. And on the drive back up I saw 2 more canadian vehicles that were pulled over. Its fucking bullshit those goddamn pigs down there

Simply_Corrupt 11-24-2009 09:47 AM

Same thing happened me to a few years ago. Got pulled over on the way to Seattle to catch a flight to Chicago. I sped up just to pass one car was doing 75 mph in a 70 zone and then pulled back over to the right lane after. Saw the cop speed up and pull in right behind me. It does seem like they target canadian because it's so much more difficult to dispute the tickets if we don't live in the states.

I got a court summons to appear, and it said on the summons if I failed to appear I'd have my driving priviledges revoked for driving in Washington. Oh WELL....!
