Thanks for your post. Not only is RS suffering from some members who have no respect whatsoever, but society in general as well.

For some you guys to jump to conclusions and spread unsubstantiated/uncorroborated rumors about them being some sort of "dirty cops" is disrespectful to the cops, their familes, and the people close to them. We know nothing about them. The fact that neither you and I know any of them just means that we should respect their memory until more news is released. It does not mean go make up your own facts because you think you know what happened from watching CSI:NY. This is common sense. This is what society promotes, sound reasoning.

The fact that 1 officer genuinely fought for his life, knowing what he/she stood to lose, means that guy is a hero. He didn't run and hide. For some of you to assume they were dirty or crooked before you could grasp any bit of the situation is disgusting. Not only are you spitting on their memory, but spitting on their families too. They were all parents, which means there are at least 4 more kids out there who lost either a mother or father yesterday. That's sad.

+1 for lack of respect on RS lately

It's RS. Kids give more respect to criminals than Law Enforcement nowadays. It's like listening to your parents; there's no cool factor associated to it unless you go against it.

You could not have said it any better. I appreciate the time you took to write that out and address those that choose disrespect the lives that were lost.

There is no way if this guy is still alive he is gonna be alive after the cops find him.
I'm not even saying that the cops will shoot him for doing what he did. After reading that article 7seven posted you know he is gonna try to take down as many cops as he possibly can.

He has been banned. That name and about a half dozen others.

As far as taking a fail personally, unit, hardly. It just emphasizes the lack of maturity with regards to use of the fail feature. But then, that's the point, isn't it. There are precious few who show any maturity (or respect) on this forum.

Once again, RIP to the officers.

Maybe that's the whole point. Maybe he's decided that he wants to die and wants to take as many cops with him as possible since they incarcerated him in the first place. Some kind of revenge/suicide?

Either way RIP to the cops that have already died and any more people who do because of this guy.

They found and killed him

The police chief is doing a news brief atm

Seattle, Washington (CNN) -- The man wanted in the fatal shooting of four police officers was shot and killed Tuesday in south Seattle, Washington, after he challenged police who approached him, authorities said.

The Seattle police department confirmed to the Pierce County sheriff's office that Maurice Clemmons was killed in the shooting, sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Troyer could not immediately say whether Clemmons was armed or whether he exchanged gunfire with police in the 2 a.m. confrontation. Troyer was headed to the scene and said authorities will have more information in a news conference set for later in the morning.

"The Seattle police department is the agency that shot and killed him after the incident occurred," he said. "We had supplied information to them earlier on multiple occasions where the suspect could possibly be at, along with a bunch of other police agencies that were running multiple operations. And at this point we do have the suspect. He's no longer out there."

Monday night, investigators had rounded up several of Clemmons' relatives and friends to keep them from helping him elude police.

Some of Clemmons' family and friends had tried to help him seek treatment for a gunshot wound that he suffered during the Sunday attack. They also called in false leads to police to divert investigators, Troyer said.

The incident ended a two-day manhunt for Clemmons, 37, that began Sunday after an ambush-style killing of four police officers from Lakewood, about 40 miles south of Seattle.

The slain officers were identified as Sgt. Mark Renninger, 39; Officer Ronald Owens, 37; Officer Tina Griswold, 40; and Officer Greg Richards, 42. All of them were parents and had been with the department since its inception.

Clemmons was an ex-convict with a long rap sheet in Washington and Arkansas, according to authorities and documents.

Witnesses say Clemmons was shot in the torso during the Sunday morning attack, and blood and gauze bandages were found in a truck linked to Clemmons, Troyer said.

Clemmons is thought to have slipped away from a home in Seattle's Leschi neighborhood Sunday night, before police surrounded the residence for about 12 hours. He was not found in the home when the investigators moved in Monday morning, Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kappel said.

The night before the shootings, Clemmons had threatened to kill police officers, but witnesses did not report those threats until after the slayings, Troyer said on ABC's "Good Morning America."

Clemmons was accused of child rape and assaulting a police officer in May. He had been released on $150,000 bond five days before the shootings, according to court records.

After his arrest, Clemmons' sister told police that he "had not been himself lately" and that his behavior was "unpredictable and erratic."

"He had said that the Secret Service was coming to get him because he had written a letter to the president," an affidavit quoted her as telling investigators.

In addition, neighbors had complained that he had been throwing rocks through their windows.

In 2000, then-Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee commuted a 95-year prison sentence for Clemmons, according to documents from the Arkansas Department of Community Correction. He returned to prison in 2001 but was paroled in 2004.

"Should he be found responsible for this horrible tragedy, it will be the result of a series of failures in the criminal justice system in both Arkansas and Washington state," Huckabee's office said in a statement Sunday night.

I think the only real explanation behind this is that this guy was fucking nuts and had a few mental issues. This was a guy who made his family strip for naked Sundays, thought he was Jesus and could fly, threw rocks through neighbor's windows and thought the Secret Service was after him.

By all accounts, these 4 officers where good officers, no complaints against them and with good service records. This appears to be just a case of a nutjob with a grudge against police that ambushed 4 officers having coffee before their shifts started. They didn't stand a chance, no matter how well trained they were, the female officer even spent time on the SWAT team, who really expects to be ambushed while having their daily coffee by a gun wielding nutjob. The really tragic part is that now there are 9 children who just lost a parent.

Anyone wishing to donate to the slain officers families can do so thru the Lakewood Police Independent Guild Benevolent Fund http://lpig.us/

Given what happened on Sunday morning, I guess this is the best ending. Get rid of him permanently. The justice system won't be able to mess up again.

From The Province:

Quote:

SEATTLE — Maurice Clemmons, the suspect wanted in the slaying of four Lakewood, Wash., police officers, was shot and killed in Seattle early Tuesday morning by a police officer making a routine check of a stolen car.

The shooting occurred about the same time as Pierce County sheriff's detectives took into custody a man believed to have acted as a getaway driver in Sunday's slayings of the officers. Police also booked four people into jail on suspicion of providing assistance to Clemmons, said sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer.

Clemmons, who was armed with a handgun taken from one of the officers he is accused of killing, was shot during a confrontation with an officer, police said. He refused commands to stop and was shot by the officer about 2:45 a.m.

Troyer said Clemmons had an older wound to his stomach believed to be the result of a gunshot fired by one of the Lakewood officers killed Sunday. Troyer said he was surprised Clemmons survived that wound.

Seattle police said the officer was on routine patrol when he saw a car with the hood up and the engine running.

The officer ran the licence plate and determined the car had been stolen, said Seattle Assistant Chief Jim Pugel.

As the officer sat in his patrol car doing paperwork on the stolen car, he noticed a man was approaching the driver's side of the patrol car from behind.

The officer recognized the man as matching the description of Clemmons and got out his patrol car, Pugel said.

"He ordered the person to stop. He ordered the person to show his hands, that person would not show his hands, and also began to run away counterclockwise around the vehicle," Pugel said.

The officer again told him to stop and he didn't comply, Pugel said.

The officer then fired several shots at Clemmons, who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Clemmons has been the focus of a massive manhunt since Sunday morning, when he is accused of killing four police officers in a coffee shop.

Authorities said the gunman singled out the Lakewood officers and spared employees and other customers at the coffee shop.

Killed were Sgt. Mark Renninger, 39, and Officers Ronald Owens, 37, Tina Griswold, 40, and Greg Richards, 42.

Police said they aren't sure what prompted Clemmons to shoot the officers as they did paperwork on their laptops. Clemmons was described as increasingly erratic in the past few months and had been arrested earlier this year on charges that he punched a sheriff's deputy in the face.
