tempary sim card for I phone
 

We have an exchange student at our house and they brought an unlocked iphone with them and want a local sim card. they are here for 5 months.

is rogers the only place to go? or do they have other choices?

they want a voice + data plan.

no answers huh? it looks like I can get a pay as you go sim card from 711 and get unlimited data for $7 / month? it seems people have gotten the sims to work in the Iphone but it's web brownsing only. no internet apps.

is the iphone 2g, or 3g/3gs?

if it's 2g, then their only choice is a fido/rogers sim

if it's 3g/3gs, the student can get a telus or bell sim card, those are cheaper than the rogers/fido sim cards

if you go with rogers/fido

its:
$10 for prepaid air time
$35 activation fee ( sim card )
= $45 setup cost


monthly plan
$35 activation fee
$20+tax etc - 200mins (anytime)


i set this up for for a relative that stayed with us , and i was amazed at the start up costs.

if you want a rogers sim - i got one i'll sell for $10

like Skinny says, they're gonna be surprised at the prices we pay....

she bought the speakout 711 plan. $100prepaid card right now gives you a free phone with it. not sure if she had to buy the sim card or comes with the phone.

took the sim card stuck it in the ipone and voice works fine. a couple phone settings later and she's got unlimted browsing for $7 / month on speak out plan...

id becareful with that unlimited browsing...no joke
watch a youtube and check balance to make sure

becuz the unlimited browsing is using WAP
iphone connects to internet.com

7-11 speak out is basically ROGERS

since he needs data and voice why don't u just go with fido month to month no contract and get data + voice? pretty sure u can fetch a fido sim off revscene somewhere for like $15bux and cancel when u leave.. none of the unlimited mobile browsing crap applies to the iphone and blackberries.. from ANY COMPANY. those are usually meant for their own mobile device's on board internet broswer.. and definitely not the iphone safari broswer
