how to get surround sound with games on PC... sort of. HELP! ok that's not really the question. i get surround sound on my PC with games and movies right now. but i have dual display setup, my second screen is a 46 inch TV, connected by uhh from the computer DVI to HDMI. i have a 4.1 surround system hooked up to the computer, which is setup around my main monitor. around the 46 inch tv monitor, i have a 5.1 surround sound setup through a SPDIF cable. i use AC3, so when i put 1080p movies (or any movie with surround), on the second screen and flip my playback devices from speakers to SPDIF, i get proper surround. but when i wanna play games (such as left 4 dead 2, or TF2, or whatever), on my big screen, i cannot get surround sound to work. it only outputs as two speakers. in game i tried setting it to 4 speaker and 5 speaker setup, but neither output surround... where did i go wrong? |
Probably not you You need a combination of software and hardware to support 5.1 in games via SPDIF. Posted via RS Mobile |
You need to have a soundcard that converts to DTS or Dolby on the fly to do something like that. Newer Realteks do this, as do X-Fi and I'm sure most other new audio cards. I'm almost positive I explained this to you on MSN a long time ago ;) |
yeah i'm almost positive you did too (and almost exactly a year ago too, i'm sure it was in dec as that is when i got my 5.1 speakers hah :p), and hence the reason i'm using AC3 LOL. shit, i need a new soundcard eh? I'm using the onboard soundcard... fuckk... |
Get one that supports DTS Connect and/or Dolby Digital Live |
