Cellphone Radiation and Health

I was doing some research about quality of sleep and came across these articles.

http://emf.mercola.com/sites/emf/arc...-EMF-Risk.aspx
http://www.independent.co.uk/life-st...ep-771262.html

Excerpt:
"Mobile phone radiation wrecks your sleep
Phone makers own scientists discover that bedtime use can lead to headaches, confusion and depression

Radiation from mobile phones delays and reduces sleep, and causes headaches and confusion, according to a new study.

The research, sponsored by the mobile phone companies themselves, shows that using the handsets before bed causes people to take longer to reach the deeper stages of sleep and to spend less time in them, interfering with the body's ability to repair damage suffered during the day.

The findings are especially alarming for children and teenagers, most of whom – surveys suggest – use their phones late at night and who especially need sleep. Their failure to get enough can lead to mood and personality changes, ADHD-like symptoms, depression, lack of concentration and poor academic performance."

Are cellphone frequencies actually detrimental to human health? Any thoughts on this?
Before you write it off, 50 years ago, health professionals and smoking companies assured the public, that smoking was 100% safe.

A few points:

1) Cell phone radiation penetrates deep into the developing brains of children.
2) Cell phone radiation results in chromosomal damage to blood exposed to wireless phone radio waves. There is a link between chromosome damage and brain cancer.
3) Cell phone radiation breaks down the blood brain barrier. Think of the blood brain barrier as an immune system for the brain. As it breaks down, other environmental toxins more easily enter the brain and cause damage.
4) A number of studies showed a statistically significant correlation between brain cancer deaths and cell phone use.
5) Cell phone radiation can cause pacemakers to malfunction is they (pacemakers) are not properly insulated from cell phones that are within 6 inches of the pacemaker.

Cellphones have been mainstream for only about 5 years. Imagine if 20 years from now there is an outburst of radiation bourne illnesses, like brain tumours.

Do you guys think it's a valid concern?

Thats really odd you brought this up. Right now I know 4 different people that either have had or still have brain tumors. Only one if them didn't have a cell or used once since she is only 9.

You know what?

There is a 100% correlation between drinking water and cancer. If enough of the population uses it, there is going to be a pretty significant correlation by chance alone. All you need to do is increase the sample size.

I would be much more fearful of radiation than your microwave or computer emits than your cellphone.

Regardless of cancer, what about the immediate studies which are suggesting cellphones may be muddling with our sleeping patterns?

And why do you feel microwaves are more dangerous than a cellphone? Most people use a microwave 30 seconds a day. Most people use a cellphone for far longer than that. Radiation intensity is a inversely proportional to the distance. We hold cellphones inches from our heads and bodies, all day and everyday.

Regardless I'm going to start turning off my phone at night to see if I notice any difference in my sleep quality. (Over the years I became a pretty light sleeper.)

If you notice any difference, it will likely be attributed to an expectation bias. And you're right about intensity but the thing is, your microwave's intensity is FAR greater than your cellphone. Enough so that it can heat things up! Remember all those times you looked RIGHT INTO your microwave? For like 5 secs to see what's going on? Well, enjoy your dose of radio waves!

I'm in the camp where if there's a chance of it happening, then I'll try to avoid it. Fortunately, I don't talk on my cell very much to begin with.

it shouldn't be affecting your sleep unless there people calling you during your sleep?

i think wireless internet is a pretty big one too...they need to do a thorough study on cellphone and prostate cancer.

you see that sheet of metal in all microwave doors with the little holes in it? that keeps microwaves from escaping from the microwave (the amplitude of microwave wavelengths is larger than the hole)

so technically, you can sit infront of a microwave all day and not be harmed the slightest bit

You bastard. I came in here to post this.

Anyhow, how long until we start making the same comparisons with GPSes, Satellite Radios, wireless Xbox controllers, and even car alarm dongles.

Truth.

I've wondered about this too. It scares the crap out of me to think about it, and how much I talk on my cell phone sometimes.

We don't hold those inches from our brain on a regular basis, and store them in my pockets all day, everyday.

Certain radiation limits are acceptable. It's all about exposure time. For example, you could receive about 25 dental X-rays a year and still be safe.

omg run, radiation from wifi, gps, radios, satellite radios, microwaves, cell phones, tvs, monitors, radio controlled toys, remote controls, florescent lighting.

You really want to go back to the Dark Ages without any of that?

Funny thing is I had this weird habit of not talking on my cell phone when I got home or in my bed or in my room. I actually disliked doing so, could never realise why, but this explains a lot, especially before i go to sleep I don't like talking on the phone. But I still txt msg. But it makes sense, sometimes your body can pick up on things and patterns subconciously like I have.

if you took stats, you'd know that statistics are complete bullshit.

i don't even consider stats math. it's like the arts of math.

I love how people are so scared of "radiation" even though we are bathed in more "radiation" than any household device would ever subject us to in a million years.

LOL, you're an idiot.
how do you think experiments work? ie. the validity of the study/experiment?
What other method can scientist use to validate their work? There has to be a medium and guess what? Statistics is it.

Just because you don't consider stats a math is your problem. That doesn't change the fact that stats is math, therefore it is a science.

Stay in school kids, otherwise you'll end up with retarded ideologies like JHatta. He probably believes in Scientology.

And to argue statistics is bullshit/useless is moot.
