recovery from a MoBo Short

Is there a way to recover that Mobo, or is it gone for good?

I bought a bunch of new parts and put them together, and the computer doesn't post! No video from onboard, no video from vga, no beeps, but everything is on.

I swapped parts here and there to check what was dead or not. PSU isn't the issue, as the old and new still give no answers. Old CPU and new CPU same deal. onboard and 2 vga cards are still dead screens.

even did the clear cmos trick. nothing.

only old pieces i have that weren't changed were the HDD, and the ram.

I made sure to check that everything is clamped in securely, and the CPU heatsink wasn't off. So I have a feeling I have a dead mobo...I can't check if the processor is busted, cuz the other mobo I have isn't the same chipset, but the CPU i'm dealing with is a day old. I've been having issues with this mobo for 3 days.

I have a feeling its a short, but is there a way to recover this motherboard?

do a quick build out of the chassis, on a static resistant matt and see if it boots.

if its brand new, try returning it?
atleast try and get it to boot with the bare minimum components like cpu, 1 ram, 1 vid card, and see if it boots.

Check you have the Mobo standoffs in the correct locations, and no extras. It maybe helpful to look the bottom of the Mobo tray to see if there are any extras.

Is the mobo light illuminated? If not that's the simplest indicator that the mobo is fried (assuming the PSU is in fact working). With bad RAM you should at least get some activity when you try to turn it on. Also it's not the HDD since you would at least be able to get into the BIOS.

yup, mobo fried. got a replacement...up and running again after 4 days.
