Battle scars ad character! That tripod needs to weather the seal instead of weather sealing!

At trade shows, Canon reps will demonstrate 1D body & 'L' lens weather sealing by pouring water on them. They're built for it. I had heard the 7D has good weather sealing.

Should have given the seal a Gitzo titanium traveler tripod to bite on! let's see it bite through that! Actually I remember watching a video once, and Art Wolfe has even had his Gitzo tripod sheared by seals or sea lions.

From reading that link, it seems that some camera (maybe his 1d) has been dunked into water.. and it survived! It's funny how people brought their 30D and 40D. Let alone the only "weather seal" the 40D has is around the battery compartment and cf card compartment.

That wouldn't matter...the Gitzo Titanium traveller still has CF leg sections. It's an $2500USD tripod though!

so with these bodies and 'L' lenses, it's a feature or selling point that one can freely shoot in pouring rain?

I personally have no problem shooting in the rain unprotected. I did it all the time with my Sony A700. I had water poured on a D700 + 24-70mm f2.8 and it shrugged it off, no problem. The only problem shooting in the rain is water on the front element/filter - it's a pain wiping it off all the time, but if you have a lens with a deep hood, it's alright.

wtf is that a seal taking a bite outta the tripod leg? i got my benro trab269! it's pretty awesome. Very sturdy and compact. Solid and the B-1 head is pretty good for now. we'll see how she stands up after some use.

oh yea, i forgot about that. They replace the magnesium parts with titanium. I was thinking the whole thing was titanium (like how aluminum ones are).

Haha...can you imagine that? It would cost something like $15,000 and look really, really cool. I like titanium...

I like the idea too, and match it with a titanium ball head :D
