Sudden price hike in Memory...

I have been out of the computer scene for a while. Well, not really "out of it", but more so not that into it. Recently, I was looking at some parts for a new build and was surprised to find that Memory prices have shot up drastically. Just last year, memory prices have been pretty good(similar to previous years). I was looking at some DDR2 memories and man are they pricey! So far, that's really the only thing I've seen a price change for computer parts. Maybe it's new news to me and old news to everyone else. :p Just thought I share what's going on in my mind right now. :/

DDR2 from what i've read in other boards was oversupplied since last year and it's finally tapering off.

Many speculate it won't go down in price even when DDR3 takes over (which should be next year)...I just hope it goes down by next xmas, that's when I'll buy like 8GB to upgarde my current 4GB :)

I remember when i bought some OCZ sticks when they were on promo for 14.99! Retail was 70 bucks or something. I did the mail in rebate, waited for a couple weeks. Complained to OCZ why it took so long, got a check the following week and another one a couple weeks later(mistake). Basically I got my ram for free plus extra money on top of that! lol....

I noticed the same thing as you, I remember last year I only paid like $40 for my OCZ 4gb DDR2-800 ram, now it's like $60+ just for 4GB!

thought pc parts are suppose to drop, not go up!! lol

DDR3 Memory is technically cheaper than DDR2 now LOL!

It's always been this way with RAM... older RAM always eventually becomes more expensive than newer RAM.

I did a little research, ask some sales reps at NCIX. They said the market was overfilled with Memory hence the cheap prices. When the "recession" hit end of last year, manufactures started to reduce production significantly. That's what i was told, I guess it's true.

thats just an excuse to bump up the price...

It is not coming down within the next 6 months as I read.

like Hyde said...just keep the ram/memory card you have bought earlier.
I was planning to buy a 16gb SDHC and 80gb SSD, but fuck the price is high.
I am using a 1gb SD and 500gb for now.
