Nikon D40 durability in snow/ice conditions? I am considering going with a group of friends on a mountain climbing expedition in 2010. We would be under wet and freezing conditions for about a week. I was wondering if anyone knew if the Nikon D40 would stand up to this? I've read that Canon 5D's and 7D's can survive being in water and in ice conditions but haven't found anything on the D40. Thanks! |
5d MKII's and 7D's are pretty much new technology, and good weather sealing. The D40 is the cheapest DSLR Nikon makes, and i'm sure it's not very weather protected. I'm sure it might be okay with the cold, but if it gets wet, i'm not too sure it would survive. Only one way to find out! It's also all plastic, so if it gets bumped around pretty good, game over. |
It's not weather sealed at all, and neither are the non-pro lenses. You had better invest in a good weather cover like the KATA E-702. |
