Personally I wouldnt bother with Yellow Tail. Sorry for the ones who enjoy them. I find Yellow Tail pretty horrible. Heres a few BC VQA ones to try out. Red Rooster Winery 2007 Reserve Merlot should be under 20 bucks Quails' Gate Estate Winery 2006 Merlot under 30 bucks. Inniskillin Cab Sauv 2006-2008 Range from 25.00 to $50.00 And if you go to any BC Only "Specialty" stores.. check out the great $20 to $40 Mission Hill and Inniskillin bottles. Oh gawd.. the Inniskillin Cab Sauv's are so damn good and VERY reasonably priced. Theres a BC winery "only" store on Hastings in Burnaby. In Kensington Plaza. Dont recall what the place is called. The people who work there are great. And have great choices of EXCELLENT BC wine. They will cost a few dollars more here. But with their advice and free sampling... you cant go wrong. Tell them your budget and they will place you with the right wine. |
Lots of Australian reds around, much cheaper than BCs as well. |
Not a big fan of yellowtail either. I'll enjoy it at a friend's place but I probably wouldn't buy it. Red Rooster J. Lohr Avalon All are typically $20-22 |
I will get crucified for saying this, but Yellow Tail Shiraz isn't really great compared to other Australian Shirazes; I would say that even Hardy's is better. If you're in the market for Australian, look for Peter Lehman. I'm more of a Cabernet Sauvignon guy. One of my favourites is "The Show" from California. It's a great wine for $20. I've got a bottle sitting on my wine rack that needs to be opened soon... |
i'm hooked on Sanduz wine. Very fruity. Check them out on Blundel & Sidaway |

Yes... Hardy's are definitely better than Yellow Tail.. Slighly off topic.. But they have a $12.00 Hardy's White Chardonnay in BC Liquor stores. Great wine for its price. Just need to open and let it breathe for about 20 minutes. |
2007 Jackson Triggs VQA Merlot is probably the best wine you can get for 13 bucks. |
If you like Shiraz, I have had good experience with Penfolds, but that, too, will depend on the bin, etc. Quails Gate Pinot Noir was also really good, IMO, but it was just over $20. Still a great value though. |
