Honestly, I'm not trying to say the police officer are guilty of this incident, but they did used unnecessary force to deal with it.

Police officers now a days have a tendency of pulling out their gun the minute they feel they are in danger. Of course they should, but the minute they know that the threat isn't as severe as they thought, one can withdraw his gun and use a different tactic to take down their opponent.

It's 2 police officer on 1 old psycho dude with an exacto knife.. is it
necessary to take his life?

As others have pointed out here, in the real world of the street, people with knives kill other people. There are specific Police training scenarions dealing with knives, they feature actual video footage of Cops carved up by knife carriers. The training and real world experience is specific...if they come at you with a knife, you protect yourself and others from grevious bodily harm and/or death. If exacto knives are so ineffective, how come the 9-11 hijackers used them?

You do NOT ever ever ever ever EVER get into a knife fight with someone. That is crap that only works in movies. One of the people who tried to kill me was a person suffering from the same symptoms this guy had. When we had absoloutely no other options, he was shot and survived.

Try the scenario with the marker above and see how you would have done. I tried it with rubber knives and 1/2 a gym floor between us & still got stabbed. BTW, when people with knives get shot, they do not fly backwards, they do not drop to their feet, they keep coming at you, specially mental patients. I know and I'm still alive because I know that.

This reminds me of an email a cop friend sent to me a few months ago.

Here is why cops shoot:

Considering recent events I thought it a good idea to get this out there again

This is pretty graphic - just a warning...........................................

THIS WAS AN INJURY THAT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED. DONT BE A HERO...SHOOT, SHOOT, SHOOT.

The photos are of an officer trained in hand-to-hand combat. The officer figured, due to his size and fighting skills, he could disarm a knife wielding aggressor.

Here is why I am forwarding these on.

To all the idiots out there who always say, "Why did the cops have to shoot him? He only had a (insert your choice of weapons here, i.e. knife, bat, club. whatever). He didn't have to be shot.

To that, I respond, "tough crap ... shoot'em".
If an officer tells you to drop your weapon, just drop it. If you're a retard, stupid, on crack, mental or just "scared" . too bad. No one deserves what this cop got for just doing his job. If
you got a knife, then you should die ... period.

This is vivid proof of how deadly people who are "only armed with a knife" can be. Some of the public think that officers should try to disarm someone armed with a knife but anyone who has had training in knife fighting will tell you - even if you win you are going to get cut.
Keep this in the back of your mind when confronting someone armed with an edged weapon.
Even though these pictures are a bit graphic, it really show why it’s better to shoot then tackle the guy and hope for the best.

would you risk tackling some crazy? what if his knife was tainted with aids and it got you?

i think they did the right thing. not like they walked up to him and shot him right away, they warned him many times but the guy still advanced.

Only thing i might of done differently was prolly shoot him in the leg rather than in the body. But i dont see anything wrong in the officers' judgement in this case.

Why are we still arguing justification? I thought this thread would be discussing the recent trend of hate-mongering against law-enforcement in general.

Or perhaps authority in general.

Holy shit. That's definitely an eye opener. I must admit I'm one of those who question how much damage a knife can deal. I'm truly humbled.

Wouldn't this be a good scenario for taser use?

No way man. Taser is a close range weapon and there's only 1 shot. Takes a long time to reloade (relatively speaking). If u miss the guy, get ready to take a 10 hit super combo

Neither officer had a Taser.

Source: http://www.theprovince.com/news/Fami...347/story.html

I can see it now, people are going to throw their hands up in the air and exclaim "WHY DIDN'T THEY HAVE TASERS?! ZOMG". First, you want the cops to stop using tasers, then you want them to use tasers. How about 1 civilian follows each cop around wherever they go, and the civvy can decide and direct the cop as to what to do? "Wait, wait, wait - don't use your taser, because in approx. 87 days from now, people are going to be very, very upset with you." Can you sense the patronizing tone?

A taser is not an appropriate response to a threat of grevious bodily harm or death. Max 21 foot range and all the target has to do is cut one of the wires. Sorry but I'm not getting close enough to taser someone with a knife. I would have to go closer than it is safe to go. You have to get inside the danger zone to use it.
