Ipod touch problem

bought an ipod speaker dock, plug my ipod touch in. No sound, all i can hear was sound from ipod speaker, not the dock speaker. I am able to charge my ipod on it.

On the odd times, I am able to hear sound and can control ipod from the remote (came with speaker dock). Things were perfect until i turned it off or unplug ipod and repeat again.
Also sometimes i see " this accessory is not supported with this ipod" on the LCD of ipod.

My ipod touch is 3rd gen, and dock is said to be compatible with 1st and 2nd gen.

is there a problem with my ipod being too new? I have the most updated firmware on it 3.1.2

nope. you got screwed by Apple. most of their accessories are firmware dependant. your dock probably was ok for older firmwares/models of ipods. when you updated your device, the acessory was rendered pretty well useless.

Yay Apple.

theaccessories have an ID chip in them that identifies them to the Apple firmware on your phone/ipod. Apple not making enought $ on Accessories? roll out a new firmware. make customers buy dupicate accessories. its like printing $
