7G Accord Radio Problem I swear when I first bought this car there was a sheet in the glove box stating that some TSB repair had been done regarding the OEM radio/HVAC control display unit. However, over the past month or so I've been having problems with the CD player reading CDs. It doesn't matter if they're burnt CD-R's or actual purchased ones... It'll try to read the disc, say that an error has occurred and then spits it out. It doesn't matter how often I try to change the discs, play with the CD changer, or turn the car and/or radio on and off. It'll do this on and off for periods lasting anywhere between a few minutes and a few days. The radio itself will work, and I have no problems with the screen displaying itself. It's becoming vaguely annoying. Anyway, I was on the TSBdata website and came across this: Quote:

yes there was a recall, 2 choices either 1, give to honda if you have warranty, or 2 give the alpine (they fixed mine) :) |
Alpine? |
yup the unit itself is made from alpine |
Yup they fail a lot. Had mine replaced under warranty and now 3 years later its being a pain in the ass again. Just buy the ipod adapter off ebay that hooks upto the stock headunit, and you can change songs through the steering wheel controls, never need a cd again. |
I know that the TSX 6-disc changer was/is a huge problem. There are no long-term fixes for this retarded pile of junk so what I have been doing is replacing it with a single din deck below the HVAC controls (the cubby is similar to the Accords). Luckily, the Accord has a kit available to place a 'real' deck down in the cubby area. This is cost-effective, sounds better and offers more Ipod, bluetooth and expandability over stock. |
^ yup I got a double din in my cubby. Just need a attachment kit from Honda and your done! I got w505 in one, and Kenwood 5140 in another, recommend the kenwood for sure. |
there were a few letters and bulletins regarding radio/cd player problems. One for replacing the audio units if the screen went dark; one for replacing the plastic screen if it came loose and diagnostic sheet for radio/cd problems. But no actual recalls. Recalls are put out for safety reasons only. Warranty runs out after 3/60. Depending on what year and model of accord it's either Alpine or panasonic. Numerous other companies make audio units for honda too |
