I would never tow any vehicle that was stuck in the snow, let alone a semi truck.

Who knows what kind of potential damage could result in doing this,I would surely not want to risk it.That's what tow trucks are for.

I wanted to see the rear get torn off that ugly Subaru like on a Pontiac Sunfire video that's been floating around on Youtube.

holy crap I was scared of that rope snapping

mpr 12-21-2009 07:06 PM

agree. the sti pulled that trailer way too easily compared to the trucks.

are those swift springs on those trailers :)

xyz123 12-22-2009 02:27 PM

^O_O, I believe there was someone in the Semi also accelerating with the STI?

124Y 12-22-2009 04:02 PM

Saw this in other forums... pretty impressive IMO. :D

Personally, I think this video is fake. Even if the truck was emply, the truck and trailer would still weight over 40,000 lbs and there is no way the STi can pulll that much weight even if the truck was spinning it's drive wheels.

how do you explain this then sir ?

I would've been scared shitless being the STi driver, I mean what if the semi couldn't stop

Strange, that STi looks a lot like a VW ;)

Those are completely different so why the comparison? If you can find a video of an STi pulling a plane, that would be valid, but this isn't.

spenny 12-23-2009 09:01 AM

...if anything the subie was just assisting the semi.

For starters, it's got over 550ft/lbs at 2000rpm...

This is more baffling

Yeah... this is basically like a straw that broke the camel's back situation... with the camel being the big rig, the back being the traction, and the straw being the STi.

It's like the big rig was 99% able to get out of that situation itself, but was missing the 1% traction... and the STi provided that extra 1% traction.

off topic but... what are those engines on the 747? i've never seen that setup before (as are the external fuel tanks under the wings?)

asahai69 12-23-2009 06:21 PM

pfft. a GT-R woulda towed those vehicles in half the time.

ericthehalfbee 12-23-2009 08:29 PM

That VW comparison is stupid. Firstly the Touareg was on pavement which has 50 times the traction of snow. Secondly the Touareg was the diesel with stump-pulling torque. Thirdly the Touareg has a low-range.

Oh, and the fact the Touareg was loaded with some 9,000lbs of steel weight to increase traction. Yes, 9,000 lbs. It looks cool, but it's just a stunt really.

I also call fake on the Subaru video. Probably some clever marketing so that people who have never driven in snow, have never towed anything in their life, have never pulled anyone out of snow and have no comprehension of simple basic physics would fall for and say "OMG Subaru rulz".
