VGA + Audio -> HDMI?

I'm just wondering if there was an adapter cable out there where one end can take VGA and audio inputs and converts it into a single HDMI end. This way I won't have to run around with two cables connected as well as flexibility on devices were there isn't VGA present.

Laptop ---> VGA/Audio ---> HDMI ---> Device

can't, hdmi is digital signel, vga is an analog signal, and so is the audio, so vga =/= hdmi

Hmm.. I know for a fact that there are VGA -> HDMI cables.. And I did more research and found a converter box, but I don't really want to pay $30 bucks + shipping for one.

Perhaps the best way is simply using a VGA -> HDMI cable and using a male 3.5mm audio cable.

ok from the quick google search, it seems like there's 2 types available,

a vga-hdmi converter box ~$200+
a vga-hdmi cable ~$20

the converter box is just not worth it, it basically changes the signal from analog to digital

as for the cable, im not sure how well it'll work since and u already know this, vga is an analog signal, and hdmi is a digital signal. so how is an analog signal from the vga end, come out as a digital signal on the hdmi end, via only a cable??

if ur trying to hook up ur laptop to a TV, u might as well just use the vga port and go vga-vga and just hook up one of those 2.5mm audio cables. just zip tie them together if u worry abt cable clutter, which i assume u r.

this is the type of cable im talking about

the description clearly says the video card must be able to output DIGITAL signal via the VGA port, which i highly doubt laptops can do that.

these r the converter boxes

i personally dont think it's worth that $200+ price tag.

i think its just a VGA to DVI adapter + DVI to HDMI adapter combined into a cable lol...

The cable only works the other way around.
HDMI -> VGA

There is no cheap way to get VGA -> HDMI, you must use a convertor box.

$40US + shipping sounds pretty cheap to me

Razor Ramon HG 12-30-2009 10:50 AM

Hmm, okay.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll just stick to using the good old VGA + audio cable meanwhile. Don't really want to pay around $50 for a converter box I won't use too often :lol
