Who are the people behind League of Legends?

As you may already know, the League of Legends development team includes Steve “Guinsoo” Feak, the original creator of DotA Allstars, and Steve “Pendragon” Mescon who started DotA-Allstars.com, and has worked closely with the DotA community for the past five years.

What you may not know, is that the League of Legends team also includes many game industry veterans, who collectively have shipped dozens of successful titles.

* Tom “Zileas” Cadwell (Design Director) – Formerly at Blizzard as the Play Balance Lead for Warcraft III: Frozen Throne, and a key designer on World of Warcraft, Tom brings his focus on mechanical and technical design, and his experience as one of the world’s most recognized Starcraft players to the table to help make League of Legends a balanced and polished play experience.
* Shawn “Babagahnoosh” Carnes (Lead Creative Designer) – Shawn has spent over 15 years working in the gaming industry, beginning his career working at Wizards of the Coast during the first four seasons of Magic the Gathering, and more recently working at Blizzard helping develop lore for World of Warcraft, and designing the World of Warcraft: TCG. He’s responsible for ensuring that League of Legends is set in an interesting world with unique and creative champions.
* And many more…

Riot is a company of gamers who have fallen in love with DotA and want to take the experience to the next level. We believe that League of Legends is helping to pioneer a new genre of games that we’re calling MOBA or “Multiplayer Online Battle Arena” that we’re excited to help bring to a global audience.

In addition to a dedicated team of developers for North American, we have partners in Europe and Asia who will help us establish League of Legends as a truly international title.

Why should I play League of Legends if I can just play DotA?

Our goal when building League of Legends was to evolve DotA beyond the limitations of the Warcraft III Engine and give players a new experience with entirely new content while capturing the familiar feel in an entirely new and expanded game. New features include:

* Automated matchmaking, to make finding a good game easy
* The ability to reconnect to games if you have disconnected
* Completely new and original playable champions
* Client-server network model with no host advantage
* Advanced stat tracking
* Built-in surrender functionality
* In-game interface and controls designed for this style of play
* Account-level progression, adding out-of-game strategic depth and customization, known as the summoner system
* Regular updates with many more features to come!
* An improved mini-map that shows your Champions pathing
* Multiple maps, (Summoner's Rift, Summoner's Rift: Winter, Twisted Treeline, The Proving Grounds)
* Features that make teaching the game to your friends easier, (game tutorial, bots, suggested items)
* And more!

It's FREE....I tried it out, it's not too bad. Nothing insane but still fun.

On July 14, 2009, Riot Games announced that the game League of Legends will be free with "no catch".[12][20] There will be a digital copy for download, but there is also a Digital Collector's Copy that will be available to purchase that contains exclusive skins, $10 credit for Riot Points, and 20 champions to access without unlocking them normally via gameplay as well as 4 "special" runes; the Collector's Pack is currently available for pre-order for $29.99.[14][21] Even though the game is free, Riot Games "plan[s] to continue to add content (characters etc...) with a full production team at very frequent intervals."[22] The game will be supported by microtransactions rather than ads or boxed copy sales.[23]

There is also a Champion Bundle, where one can buy the other 20 heroes that were available at launch for $19.99. Using the Riot points from the Collector's Pack, you can fully unlock the starting 40 heroes for $44.99, as well as receive the other benefits from the CP.

It's like 4 posts below this one.......

Anyhow, It's in Beta right now but you can get beta keys pretty easily. Google "Alieneware HON Beta key" and it should be the first link.

HoN looks better.

Edit: HoN looks A LOT better. LoL looks worse than DotA Allstars.
Funny how they make comments about HoN copying DotA Allstars, when it's Guinsoo who "stole" the idea from Eul who created DotA.

threezero 12-30-2009 08:33 PM

so any of these run natively on mac?

impactX 12-30-2009 10:16 PM

For HoN, it will support Mac OS down the road. Right now, the beta is only available on Windows.
