PHOENIX - Officials say a man was killed when he fell into a backyard fire pit in Phoenix.

Fire Department spokesperson Dorian Jackson said crews were called to a home near Union Hills Drive and Seventh Street about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Jackson said the man was trying to roast a pig when he stumbled into the fire pit.

Phoenix Police Lt. Kourish Khatir described the pit.

"It's apparently a circle and it goes deep, about three or four feet, so when he goes in, he's unable to get out," said Khatir. "It's not wide, it's basically a cylinder."

Family and friends were unable to pull the man out of the fire before he died, investigators said.

Fail for the friends/family who didnt think of getting the hose to put out the fire..

They would've been better off to try and pull him out and hose him off outside the pit. It would take too long to extinguish the amount of coals typically used to roast a pig.

This reminds me of the guy who fell into the campfire on an episode of Survivor.

Not to mention the steam caused by the water would still burn the living shit out of him.

The best thing to do is to pull him out asap and then water him down or extinguish the fire. Otherwise, you're hooped.
