Lowering Question Okay, so I don't know much about suspension whatsoever, so here's a pretty wild question- I'm looking to lower my Del Sol a couple inches or so, so what will I need? As far as I know, I need some springs, new struts to handle the tight springs, and a camber kit? My ride is pretty uneven right now, and when I head over speed bumps I hear the suspension creak like mad, so it's about time I replace all of them and lower in the process  Looking for something that's quality, but also relatively affordable :) ($400-$500) Happy New Years! |
delsol? pretty much can get away with a civic suspension, so with that said, your options are completely endless. u can go cheap with ebay brand springs (careful, u get what u pay for), to more name brand springs. if you are in the 2inch range, then you are looking at "race" springs, and on avg, anywhere 200-300 for a set. as for struts, you are looking probably $100 a corner. so all that added up, brand new, id budget closer to $1000 excluding labour. to save a bit, look towards used. used springs are ok, but i question used struts. |
Awesome! So, I would just need springs and struts? Can you recommend me somewhere to snatch some? My friend recommended me H&R springs in terms of affordability and its lowering ability. Is he right? Sorry for all the questions! I'm completely new to all of this, and after many years, I've only started now to DIY and whatnot. |
OH! He told me to just grab some H&R springs and Monroe struts. I've never really heard of Monroe struts being used to lower a vehicle, though. |
If you need help, fellow del sol owner here :) As for budget suspension, keep an eye out for used H&R Race Springs from 92-00 Honda Civic or 94-01 Acura Integras, as for shocks, Koni Yellows would be your best best. You can probably find a used set for 500-600 bucks if you looked hard enough. http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/1...0420091541.jpg In total with the combo, it's a 3 inch drop. As far as camber kits go, don't buy one unless you plan to track your car, low offset rims fitment, or just simply paranoid about tire wear. With this suspension setup without the camber kit, it's about -3.25 in the front and -2.75 in the rear. Just rotate the tires every oil change to get even wear with minor camber wear. |
If you're lowering for looks, stock replacements are fine. If it's better handling you want, get something better. |
Perfect! You guys have been such a huge help! BTW Nammer, your ride looks awesome. While I'm at it, would this be worth a $250? - http://www.revscene.net/forums/mfrt-...g-t600331.html |

I'll give you one example. http://www.revscene.net/forums/fs-mint-91-t598522.html This is a person selling a car on RevScene, where majority of the posts are civilized. http://www.vancouvercivics.com/forum...d=90071&page=1 This is the same car being sold over on VCC, where everyone is bitching, flaming, and complaining about the car. ______________________________________ I had videos on my youtube that were "un-appropriate" and VCC members decide to flame me on it, and other things. The flaming is "whatever" to me but the fact they flame me for the same shit for over a year is ridiculous. I made a response to a member over there that just got a del sol recently, and again VCC members decide to flame shit about me that happen like a year ago. |
Yeah, saw that after you posted the link in the RS thread. Funny how everyone backtracks after page 1. I pretty much stick to the B&S on there also. |
on every board, you have ur good threads, and ur threads that have gone to shit. on a tight budget, id stick with used springs, and probably go with kyb agx's, they are more affordable than koni's, and i would say on par with performance. there is no perch setting on them, but that is fine. for a 2inch drop u are looking at the h&R race. or even eibach sportlines, which sit around 1.7 but sag over time. |

Yay, I'm meeting him tomorrow :) Now, I hunt for struts! How much do a set of Koni Yellows go for? |
Oh man. So many questions... "FS: EK H&R Lowering Springs Have a full set of H&R lowering springs for 96-00 Civics. Race drop so ~2.5 drop. U2U is key" Would that fit my 93 Del Sol? |
EK springs will fit yes. Spring rate might be a bit different. But it'll fit. |

In time I shall learn the ways of the Civic. Next up, shocks! :) I was looking at the Neuspeed website and they're selling a pair of koni yellows for $125 USD. Worth it? I have no idea where to get cheap, but quality shocks, and I dont trust used shocks  |
