Question: Win7 Home/Pro Language settings Hey guys, I've two questions regarding Windows 7. First of all, I'm a bit of a computers/software newb, so please work with me if what I'm about to ask is common knowledge. My dad wants to upgrade from Vista to Win7, but he doesn't want to spend a hell of a lot on it. I went on to the Microsoft website and briefly read the product comparisons, and I came across this: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...e/default.aspx Under where it says "Work in the language of your choice and switch between any of 35 languages.", neither the Home Premium nor the Professional Version have check marks. I'm a bit confused to what this means, my dad would like to be able to work in Chinese, but according to that chart, he would need to purchase the Ultimate version in order to do it. Perhaps I'm getting the wrong idea (or perhaps there is something undisclosed about the language settings from their website), because I don't recall Windows XP or Vista ever having this issue between the Home/Professional versions. So my question is: Does anybody know for sure if my dad will be able to work 100% no problem in Chinese by using the Home Premium or Professional version? The second question is, what is the main difference between Windows 7 Home Premium and Professional? I've heard from my friends/cousin/whatnot that if I didn't want to spend so much on the Ultimate version, then at least go for the Professional because the Home Premium version is complete shit. Does anybody have any credible insight on this? Thanks in advance, -Physixx |
Professional offers Windows XP mode, better automated backup, group policy controls, more features in remote assistance, etc. Home Premium is more than adequate for 95% of the users out there. Vista was the same way with language packs; you had to had to have Ultimate. I don't think XP ever supported different language packs, but I could be wrong on that. |
Thanks Jmac, But I'm still not too clear about my first inquiry, will my dad be able to type/read/do everything in Chinese with Home Premium? Thanks again. |
^Yes he can, but the Windows interface will be in English, not Chinese. Your dad will have no problem running/typing/reading Chinese program. matter of fact, I am on Win 7 and doing exact same thing. |
not entirely 100% I have english win7 ultimate I swiched to Korean, interface and everything is korean... however I can not type/read korean in some programs Games, for example, still shows boxes and weird charactors, when I try to do chat in game and some websites still not able to show properly http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/6933/picok.jpg I'm hoping to find and download win7 korean ISO and use my keys, to get real thing |

Oh.. I see what I did. I downloaded the language pack which is also an .exe file, but not the main file. That's why all it did was extract. |

I think you have to restart afterwards. |
