Moving HDD sata ports, How do i do it?

So earlyer this week my hard drive was dieing and i backed it up on an HDD i had in and Extrenal esata case, but now i want to move that hard drive into the computer where the old hdd and use that sata port, when i do that tho when windows 7starts to boot up it only goes to the logo and seems to stop there (or is taking a very long time to load but i never give it a chance passed 10mins)

How do i tell the HDD to boot on a new sata port?

windows 7
intel dg965ot mother board
Western Digital 750gb black.

Describe how you backed up. Can you describe the logo screen. Does it say "Intel" or "Starting Windows".

To perform like you want you need to use a program like Ghost or Acronis True Image.

Using Windows 7 it is hard to copy all the file you want/need for a recovery. It fails to copy out the system files because it figures you are not qualified to use them, and fails to warn you about this. It thinks you are an idiot like a Mac/Quicken/AOL user.

i tryed the ghost 15 method first, it was buggy so i just went for the basic method, format my new hdd, fresh install win7 then copy paste all my old hdd data on to the new hdd in a back up folder and sort it out later.

so now i am using the new hdd(the old ones are disconected), but its out side my computer and not where it needs to be, and i need to get it back inside on the old hdd sata port(1) but like i said, when i move it there it goes to the glowing windows 7 logo screen and seems to stop tho continues to do the glowing effect but after 5-10 mins i give up and reboot.

EDIT: so i figured, if i simply take the sata port the case is useing for the esata port (which i used to install win7) and attach the hdd directly to it via a standard sata cable it would work, but again, it seems to hang up at the windows7 boot loading screen. PLEASE HELP

doesn't matter which sata port it is on. if there is only one drive in the PC. and it booted off one port. it'll boot off the other when you move it.

yes, thst is what i thought, but its not happening, and i have been at this for days trying different combotiantions of things to get this to work right, unless this hdd is inside the external enclousre, pluged into the case's esata port, which is pluged into sata port(5) it will not go passed windows logo boot screen

i tryed booting using the windows 7 disk, first it stays at the logo screen for a very long time, then it goes to a completly black screen with a white mouse arrow i can move, nothing else can i effect.

i tryed pressing f8 to boot into safe mode, or atleast acceses those options, every time i do that it will stop at a black screen and will beep every time i press the button.

i have done every key word search on google i can think of, no one else seems to have this problem, i dont even have a freaking error message i can research,

(i like the fact i have 2 "johns" servicing me on this problem lol)
please help. and thank you for any input given so far

Are you running a legit copy of Windows 7? If not, you might consider uninstalling your loader and reinstalling it.

EDIT wtf!

so with this fresh clean install on my new hdd done, then after i finnish backing up from the finnal hdd i shut down the computer, unplug the hdd turn it back on and now it tells me the MBR is missing, WHY GOD WHY?! how do i remove the second hdd safely?
its a legit download copy from a pay site, and i have a legit code for it.

no matter what i do i cant get to the windows install screen, till now, i reconnected one of my broken hdd this time in sata slot(1) and the new hdd(which i cant accesses any more seems something in the boot is damaged and i cant get windows 7 to load from disk to fix it or even for mat it) and put the new hdd in sata slot(3) finnaly got it into windows setup, formated and is reloading windows 7 for the umm 5th time then i have to reconnect the old broken hdds transfer my backup files from them, again, then do all my settings, again, and i hate to say this, i kinda wish i was conntent being a mac noob with weeks like this one. oh well so long as its only once a year as usual it will keep me sharp.

lets just say for now this issue is still not closed. i have only been finding ways around the actual problem of not being able to swap sata ports, i had the same problem with windows 7 on my old hdd as well.
