Average price for full body kit paint and install?
 

Hey guys, how much would it cost to paint a G35 body kit from white to black and have it installed? Where would be the best place at an affordable price to do this at?

around $500 depending on how much prep needs to be done.

I'm sure it would cost a lot more then $500. Depending on what type of it, it will take some modification to make it fit, especially if it is a knock off kit.

Paint for the kit, assuming it is a front/rear bumper and sideskirts, would cost around $800-1000.

I would be cautious if a shop is willing to install a kit properly and paint it for only $500.

paint your looking at about 1k at the least for the whole kit. Since its not oem it wont properly fit and needs a fitment adjusted. Which is heavy labour, so you'll be looking at maybe close to a 1k for that.

It wont be that cheap unless you cheap out on the shop, and trust me you do not want to cheap out on the shop unless its a small part you dont care about.

paint cost around $750-1000 (high quallity paint from ppg) can do a whole coupe or a small sedan (not inside out of course)
its just garages out there charge alot for labour (nearly double what the cost of paint)
and adjusting and fitment is heavy labour? ...no offence but....if thats what you call heavy labour....then you'd have no idea...how much more "heavy labour" is involved when washing your car :p
its true that if the kit really out of shape...it might cost a more....but if its close to a good fit...more than $500 is a rip off (paint job alone)

Prep is very labour intensive. If you happen to buy a replica kit, chances are, it is not a perfect fit. on top of that, the panel will probably be wavey. thus a thin layer of bondo is applied to even out the surface.

then the surface needs sanding, then tacking, then preping for primer.

after primer comes paint. after paint, depending on the color code, is either pearl, then clear, or straight to clear. not to mention if the part is a whole bumper, you have multi angles to be painting, and not just a flat surface.

then comes install, removal of the original piece, and or adding it to the original piece as per a lip kit.

If its polyurethane, then heat is needed to straighten it a bit if the part came in twisted.

if its fibreglass, then adjustments, cuts, and at the worse case scenario, complete split in 1/2 and refibreglassing together if the part was a really bad replica. really bad replica's are replicas made from replica's and thus the original errors from taking a mold and method of taking the mold usually makes the bumper about 1/2 an inch to an inch wider. thus a replica of a replica can be off as much as 2inches too wide. if its a replica kit then just mounting the kit on the car is another challenge. Real kits have done the research on how to attach the kit to the body or the bumper to the body using existing screw/bolt holes or minimizing the need to add additional screw holes.

so $1000 is correct. unless you want a macco job.

What do you consider a correct labour hourly rate? 50/hr? unless you are a backyard bodyshop, most labour hr starts minimum around 80+/hr. This is bare minimum to cover cost of overhead, labour, materials, and basic markup for the shop to survive.

Like previously stated price varies dependent on material the kit is constructed of how well it fits and even the finish you desire.
A quality four piece kit consisting of skirts and front and rear bumpers will cost you a minimum of $1000 to do nicely.
Usually when I install a body kit I pre fit everything and adjust as needed for tight gaps and repairs of small cracks (if a fiberglass kit) before sending to the paint booth. I also refrain from painting the body kit while its mounted to the car to keep dust and contaminates to a minimum. Then I reinstall the kit.
When following these steps you end up with a quality OEM worthy fitment and finish.
But it aint cheap.
Stay away from cheap knockoff kits! In the end a cheap kit will ALWAYS cost more then a good original. (unless your happy with a zip tie finish)

While I agree adjusting/fitting isn't heavy labour, it takes a lot of time to remotely make those cheap knock off kits fit.

Please find me a shop that will paint both front/rear bumper and sideskirts for only $500, because that is beyond too low for an entire kit.

sorry i didnt take it into account that every garages rate is different, and i pretty much said $500 based on what i can get it done for. Getting a kit done for 500 bucks is nearly impossible out there now.

but seriously, prime, paint, clear, sand or any form of reshaping is not hard work unlike previously stated. Yes, it takes alot of time and care, but people just make it sound like rocket science for some reason.

Ive been in this trade for a period of time now and its not hard if you do it everyday. So next time you go to a garage dont let them talk you into giving them sympathy saying oh this is hard and that is hard....they just want more money from you!

even if you read on REAL body kit sites they will even say if you pay more then 1k for install and paint look else where your gettin ripped off!
If you get a decent kit not from ebay the fitment SHOULDNT be that painful!!!
oh and wood skrews!!! WTF have some pride in that install thats a butcher job:(

Even real kits need a little bit of work here and there to fit 100%. They just aren't anywhere near as bad as those damn knock off kits.

anybody know where a decent body shop is in the interior? i'm in kamloops and just looking to check out prices for a kit install and paint for the whole car. also is there a place to buy your own paint and bring it to the shop?

and even if so, those are US prices, where labour and costs are far cheaper than here in vancouver.

even if u were to compare vancouver to say toronto, toronto would be a bit cheaper.

i lived in van I know what prices are LOL I lived all my life till the past 2 years in BC! And yes there are many shops that are very pricey but fact is there is enough shops around to get a way better price then 1000+ I wouldnt pay that to get some parts painted and putting on a bodykit that quite honestly isnt that much of a job!

I agree there is work involved you dont get a bodykit and pow it fits perfectly but anyone with a brain and a couple friends and some beers can have a fun weekend of playing with that shit!!

Not everyone is capable of doing a DIY kit install. Especially 80% of the people here :p

I havent done one personally well add on rear side skirts that type of deal but not a full kit... I will be tackling that chore over the next 2 months sometime LOL

If you are handy at doing that kind of work. It shouldn't be a problem. It is just a lot of trial and error.

I've seen some horrible kits, and at the end of the day, the owner would have saved money if they had just bought a real one :p

just don't cheap out or you'll turn out to be version 2 of the ruined Z car.
