Bad time to build a PC now? Looking to build a new PC for myself so I can give the old one to my family.. But for some reasons, the same parts I am looking at are now more expensive then they were 3-5 months ago... Harddisk I got for $50 a few months ago is now $65.. a Phenom 955 + mobo combo from newegg is now $250 + shipping, but 3 months ago the 945 + mobo combo was only $220... Does PC parts go through some sort of price cycle? And are we expecting anything new soon? (i.e. CPU/HD) Any chance prices will go down a lot in the next 1-2 months? (i.e. 15%-25%?) |
All the part price have gone down a few percent over the last few months, except for the DDR2 which has doubled in price. Now is as good a time as any to build a PC. You might consider an i5 setup (which uses DDR3). |

Not to mention I prefer AMD since all my current PC are AMD w/ compatible parts, troubleshooting and upgrading is much easier. Plus I think AMD offers much better value for stock, mainstream CPUs right now. Is this a good combo? (955 + M4A78-M) http://www.newegg.ca/Product/ComboDe...t=Combo.315869 Light gamer, gonna use it with a HD3850. |
Now is the best time to upgrade. If you have DDR2, considering going with an Asrock 785G motherboard and any Phenom II or Athlon II that fits your budget. |
I think there's never a good time to buy tech gadget stuff. Things r advancing so rapidly that ur state-of-the-art machine today will be replaced but something better in a few months. Just get them when u need them |
a bad time to buy computer related stuff is when the new replacement is coming out in less then 2 weeks. ie: buying atom netbooks last week oppose to this week or buying Core 2 Quad just before the i5 were in stores 1) its not cheaper to buy old tech when the new tech is around the corner 2) the new tech is not much more money oppose to the product its replacing, sometimes its even cheaper |
I am asking mainly because the same parts I was looking at either cost about the same or less than it is right now .. well I guess I just spotted some good sale prices few months ago..? example: Phenom II 945 + mobo combo $197 (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/n...combos-764299/), now it is around $240 Seagate 7200.12 500GB I got for $49.99 few months ago, now they cost $64 Ram prices obviously went up a lot too. Anyway, does anyone know if AMD is coming out with any new CPU / architect? It seems like the phenom II has been out for a long time and I haven't heard of anything new from AMD... |

probably because the RAM companies used to only have DDR2 in their product line... but they have to split up their product line to make room for DDR3... so the supply for DDR2 goes down hence the increase in price |
