Help me build a Budget PC

I am looking to build a Budget PC for my sis. I have been out of the market, so I don't know what's available out there.

My budget is $500 before tax., I don't need a LCD screen. The PC will be mainly used for word processing, net surfing, streaming HD content to PS3, and for gaming (rarely).

Just put this together for a friend a week or so ago. The prices may not be completely accurate anymore.
NCIX Pricematch
CPU: Athlon II X4 620 $129.99 $104.97
Mobo:GA-MA785GMT-UD2H $98.43 $84.99
RAM: G.Skill 4GB DDR3 $114.99 $99.99
HDD: Seagate 7200.12 500GB $53.99 $53.54
DVD: Samsung SH-S222A $33.37 $25.99
PSU: Corsair CMPSU-400CX $52.99 $36.99
Case:Antec 300 $57.99 $57.99
Total $541.75 $464.46

The mobo I selected comes with onboard video. If you want you could get a different motherboard + dedicated graphics but that would likely bring the total over $500 before tax/shipping. Also you may need a more powerful PSU depending on what video card you choose.

EDIT: the formating came out kinda shitty. Sorry

Your mobo is a mATX, will that fit the ATX case?

EDIT: nevermind, it does.. any other suggestions?

So, can anyone help me out? like Skinny? :)

SkinnyPupp 03-07-2010 03:33 AM

I'd go with what Crow suggested, but with an ASRock 785G (which has SidePort, so you don't have to sacrifice system ram for video) and some OCZ ram in the $80 range. Take that extra budget and see if you can apply it to a Phenom II X4.

willystyle 03-07-2010 03:45 AM

How does the i3 stack up with the Athlon II X4? Worth the extra cost?

^ You have the wrong model number in the last row of your table. It's a "620".
