Xbox Live Gold subscription question

So I'm looking to pick up an xbox live 12 month gold membership and I'm shopping around for prices and by far the best deal seems to be buying it in the US. My question is: is my account somehow location specific? will the card I buy in the states work here fine for my console here in Canada. Normally I would think it wouldn't make a difference but with such a huge price difference between the two I'm thinking I may have to buy it here for some reason (knowing Micro$oft).

If that's the case I'll just try to find a cheap one off craigslist, but so far $35 next time I go across the border seems by far the best deal.

After a little more research I've found some sources that pretty much say "it should". Anyone have first hand experience with it working? I know the points cards don't work but I'm really hoping the subscription card does.

yes, Xbox Live memberships from the US will work in Canada. It is the Xbox Live Points that are country specific. Hope that helps.

I'll check it out. Looking online it doesn't seem to go any cheaper at a retail store than $60.

I'll be in palm springs at the end of the month anyway so if I don't find a good deal by then I'll get it there. Also noticed the play and charge kits were $15 (compared to $30 here) and most games are $10-20 cheaper. Surprising considering the current exchange rate.

Amazon.com has 1 year subscriptions for $35.99. You can see if they mail to Canada. Or maybe pick up in Blaine? (If it's not too much hassle). Or mail it to an Amerifriend and have them email you the code.

Unfortunately they won't ship it to Canada (most electronics can't). I have a PO Box in Blaine but the latter option would be more likely if I don't end up getting it when I go down anyway.

Have you tried looking around on ebay, they usually email you the code after the auction, thats how I got my first card, I bought one from ebay and got the 12+1 month card for around 35 bucks and he just emailed me the code and it worked no problems ... just make sure that the seller has good feedback

^^
Same I usually just get it from eBay as the prices are decent. If you look around on redflagdeals there are deals elsewhere from time to time that are slightly cheaper than eBay. However, unless you care about saving an additional few bucks forget it. eBay is always there and you usually get the code within hours if not minutes sometimes.
