Detroit 2010: Chevy Aveo RS Show Car Gets Power, Fuel-Economy and Lots of Style : Auto News

Ahead of it’s debut at the Detroit Auto Show next week, Chevrolet is giving us a good look at the Aveo RS Show Car, which foreshadows the production 2011 Aveo. And we have to say: Bravo GM!

The sub-compact segment is heating up and while Ford has garnered a lot of publicity with the upcoming Fiesta, if the production Aveo is anything close to this concept, GM may just have hit a home run. Along with aggressive styling and an all-new chassis that is longer, wider and with more interior room than the current model, the Aveo RS Show Car is powered by the 1.4-liter turbocharged Ecotec motor as found in the new Chevy Cruze. That being said, it makes 138-hp (plenty for a sub-compact and far more than any current production sub-compact offers). GM hasn’t released fuel economy numbers, but with the Cruze capable of 40 mpg on the highway, the Aveo should be able to match that. Better still, enthusiasts will appreciate the six-speed manual transmission.

Inside there’s plenty in the way of high-tech goodies and the interior is simply stunning in both its design and use of materials.

We’ll be sure to bring you more details on the Aveo RS Show Car, as well as news about the production model, with live coverage of the Detroit Auto Show starting January 11th. The all-new Aveo will go into production at GM’s Orion, Michigan plant in late 2010 as a 2011 model.

TRD Rs200 01-08-2010 09:22 AM

Fuck Chevy, I want Daihatsu. Chevy dont belong in the small car market.

That's just a Daewoo, no? And I'm disappointed. I read "RS Show Car" and thought, "WOW GM BUILT US A CAR LULZ." :(

Interior shot,
Not bad for a Chevy. Finally getting somewhere, however, speedo looks like its out of the movie Aliens or something; looks hideous. Plus, I think they could have done a better job with the head unit + vents in the middle. The pieces sticking out look retarded and could have been used as vents. The current position of the vents in the middle could have been replaced with a large lcd display which would show gps, etc instead of the ugly little blue led display.

Rear-Side shot,
The location of the door handles for the rear doors is simply retarded. It creates a stupidly huge blindspot similar to the dodge avenger.

Other than that, i think this car has some potential.

I think it looks fantastic! 6-speed and plenty of power for a little hatch is great too. Agree about production model probably looking like ass, but here's hoping it doesn't.

Wykydtron 01-09-2010 07:34 AM

I'd look into buying one.

whoa.. that is a weird speedo.. but then again, Honda has a weird one too

JesseBlue 01-10-2010 09:30 PM

we don't have to think that they'll change it...they will change it and give a bs excuse...safety this...market thinks that...

i do like the look of it...then again, they'll overprice it...

Wykydtron 01-10-2010 09:51 PM

I am definately going to wait for this to come out before I make the decision on whether I'm going to get the 2, the Fiesta, or this.
